Erin Blanchfield needs to change gyms

She's too small for the weight class and Manon was too big.
You’re a mod as well?! When I saw you and @Neck&Neck had blue names, I had to scroll and make sure there wasn’t some kind of Easter shenanigans going on where everyone was a mod <lmao>

Congrats! I like you the fam getting the nod!

She could be great with the right people. She got to the #2 spot with that terrible coaching. She definitely has the heart of a champion. She didn't give up even though she was chasing and getting countered for all 5 rounds. If she got a better coach/team and dropped a weight class I would not be surprised if she becomes champion. I think they've got room for her in ATT and AKA.

She got out muscled. When she was able to get the clinch, she just got reversed.

Why was she relying solely on the clinch? Why does she not have a double or single leg game? These are things a good gym needs to address. Her corner advice was atrocious.

She's out muscled every opponent up until now, her strength is not the issue. It's fight IQ, gameplan, and offensive wrestling technique. And she needs to stop running into punches. These are all things that can be taught with a better trainer.

One of chael's best weapons was his double leg take down. I don't know why alot of grapplerss with limited striking ability don't hone that technique. For chael, it took him to 2 title fights.

Body locks into takedowns was not going to work. I don't know if she knows how to do a single or a double but that's what she needed and her corner was awful as well.

AKA would be a terrible gym for her. Who is she going to train with? Are there other female competitors out of the gym? How big are the male training partners? Even a guy fighting at 135 is cutting 20-30 lbs. Are some of the smaller fighters even going to work with her?

Erin's setup isn't bad. She has some of the best BJJ training partners in the world. There is also a good variety of female fighters that she trains with. She also trains MT and wrestling separately at different gyms. She is what she is as a striker. She competed for 6 years in amateur MT. She isn't very athletic and I don't think she will get much better at striking. If I have to criticize something then it's probably her weight. She gets chubby and she can drop a weight class.

She knows how to shoot a double or singles. That is her usual entry then if that fails then she chains it with bodylock/trip as a finisher. She has throws too. You can watch her previous fights.

Fiorot just really prepped well for her. Fiorot didn't throw much kicks to limit the shot from the outside. Fiorot also stayed away from cage. Blanchfield uses the cage to help secure the takedowns.

Something about her current training routine is preventing her from doing anything other than clinch wrestling. Let us know what that is if it isn't her current coaches. Her corner was abysmal so I'm using that to deduce that the gym is the issue.

Her coaches are fine. She struggles to take down girls that are bigger than her. Changing camps isn't gonna do anything for her. It would make more sense for her to change divisions. I feel like fans overreact to losses. She's only 24, and has 1 loss in the UFC to a legit title contender. She's not even in her prime yet lol.

She's just never had much skill.

Can't strike. Can't really wrestle.

She just has crazy cardio and is decently strong, and that's gonna be enough to beat the majority of the girls in her division.

Girls like Santos and JJ Aldrich were way beyond her skill level, but she still just persisted and found a way to win.

She didn't just get outmuscled though, she got schooled on the feet in all areas.

She has no real footwork, strikes poorly, and doesn't really know how to set anything up at all.

Even if she was as strong as Manon, she still would have just been getting countered for 5 rounds coming in.

She tried nothing but clinching and she shot for less takedowns than Fiorot. GTFO with "her coaches are fine", they were terrible.

What's with this weight crap some of you are manufacturing? She's outmuscled every opponent up until now. She's the number 2 ranked fighters in her weightclass. Weight has nothing to do with it.

Go watch her other fights. She knows how to do singles/doubles, using a whizzer and kicking to throw. She is a chain wrestler. Her go to move is a body lock to a trip after the initial entry. She trains at a separate wrestling gym. It’s not something that she doesn’t know how to do. It’s she can’t execute that move against Fiorot.

You aren’t giving Fiorot enough credit for being better in that position. She also never let herself be backed to the cage. Erin uses the cage to secure takedowns. Manon also limited her rear leg kick to prevent the double into a trip that Blachfield likes to counter with.
