I'm from Edmonton but I work with bands from all over Canada. I have worked with American artists but never directly under any.Are you in Cali or something? When I worked in music people definitely leaned left but we're more middle of the road.
I definitely keep a very politically mixed group of friends and associates so I probably don't attack the far leaning crowd
You will never break out of the local band scene if you don't have the right opinions. Most bands that do make a big impact do so because they get government funding. Spiritbox is the biggest and latest example of that. These grants are never given to bands that aren't openly left wing or don't consist of prominent minorities.
The politics become so performative, for example there is a hardcore band here that went viral for attacking someone who gave a nazi salute at a show. What is not known is this was just a setup to try and get clout online and it worked. This band has gotten very popular because of this.
It wasn't this way at all 10-15 years ago. It's a problem coast to coast up here. If anyone catches so much as whiff of you have a right wing opinion you are done, even in Alberta the most redneck province in all of Canada.
