Opinion Elon Musk says FEMA sent $59M last week to luxury NYC hotels to house illegal migrants. Edit: see bottom of the OPs

sounds like it would cost less just to put them in a plane and send them home.
which would be in the citizen's best interest.

Would have been really smart and cheaper to do that before bussing them literally across the entire country into the most densely urbanized areas on earth for them to hide out in, huh?

It's in the citizen's interest to house these migrants rather than let them wander the streets homeless in the winter, don't you think?
Of course. I am not an advocate for leaving them homeless. I'm surprised Adam's didn't work with the Governor to set aside some land and build temporary housing outside of NYC. Converted c-cans or modular housing can be put up really quick. There seems there was no forethought here. Putting them up in the Roosevelt is ok for a very short duration. But for as long as it has gone on (4 years) and the amount of money gets outrageous there has to be other avenues explored.

Set aside some land??

We're talking about NYC. What land? We going to turn central park into migrant housing?

Sure, but that was a political message and it worked.
But now is now. and now it seems like the cheapest solution would be to pack them on a plane and send them home.

or....put them on a plane and send them home.

I was editing for clarity haha. You busted me before I could finish. I mean land outside of NYC. That was what the part about the Governor was supposed to mean.

Good luck finding thousands of people in an urban sprawl that don't want to be found.

From the party of let's cut government spending. Let's deal with our problems the most inefficient way possible just to own the libs. lmao

Agreed, but that has to go through the feds I imagine and not a city. I'm speaking from a mayoral perspective. He should have def been pushing on the administration for help along with the Governor of New York and their congressmen

Why isn't Tom Homan going to these Hotels? Elon needs to inform Tom ASAP.

So we're going to build more detention centers outside of the region the migrants entered from, and move them again... and then again and again...

How is this supposed to be a better solution to the problem?

Sounds like spiteful policy backfiring.

"Elon Musk Says"

He lied about $50 million in condoms to Palestine. He lied about $8 million USAID to Politico. Why would you think he'd suddenly be telling the truth about this Fema claim?

Is there any source behind this? Probably not, but he knows that. He also knows that when the truth comes out in two or three days (because investigating takes time) he'll just be on to the next lie so this one won't matter. He needs to keep the narrative spinning not be looked at.

It's much better than where they came from imo. Even hotels are becoming modular for quickness to erect. To me its a much better idea than the cost of 4 years at the Roosevelt. The accommodations aren't bad. The only downside would be that they couldn't move around as easily as NYC but it's much better imo while they are awaiting response from the federal govt

So..... Is anyone cross checking this stuff or can Musk and Trump claim financial foul on everyone and shut them down? If it's true then good because taxpayer's money should be going to what it's supposed to but how do we know he's not just blowing smoke on X? These threats of closing departments though seem incredibly petty. You don't cut off a whole arm because your hand has skin cancer.

Between Texas and California there's over 200 migrant detention facilities made for this purpose.
Also, what percentage of migrants in New York or Chicago do you think we're 'bused up' by border states?

Do you think it's cheaper to temporarily house them in empty hotel rooms or empty apartments?

Be honest.
Average rent in New York one bedroom is 2600, average hotel rent is 300-400 a night. 300 times February number days…
