Elon Musk Agrees to $44b Deal for Twitter

The place I worked was packed with Chinese immigrants on Chinese phones.

Wechat seems pretty useful, although all my stuff being THAT focused would make me nervous.
So it's a Chinese version of Twitter?

Ah, I know whatsapp. Use it a lot for my international buds. Thanks.

There was talk that Elon bought Twitter as a foundation for an American wechat.

Again, nobody has a clue what he's thinking but everyone is sure they do.

But whatsapp is a group chat thing. Totally different than Twitter. Wechat must be different.

got it. Does that mean he requested account be deleted rather than a ban? Not sure if I have seen the deleted user thing before lol

I have been trying to get to the bottom of that for like a week.

No one's talking.

Wechat is huge and I'm not the guy to describe it. The attractive element that people thought Elon wanted was the payment processing,

Google says:

WeChat is a free messaging and payment app that allows users to:

  • Communicate: Send text messages, make voice and video calls, share photos and videos, and create groups

  • Share updates: Post to a social feed called "Moments" to share photos and thoughts with friends

  • Make payments: Use WeChat Pay to send money, pay bills, and shop online or in person

  • Conduct business: Use WeChat to conduct business

  • Translate messages: Use the localization feature to translate messages and content between 20 languages

  • Call international landlines: Use WeChat Out to call international landlines at a low rate

Bluesky will have as much traction as Truth Social and Threads.
No I have a lot of friends across multiple platform and they are running to bluesky they only want streaming on the platform and they are gone for good on Instagram and threads. Threads not that popular with them ether but the only other alterative before bluesky wide openned up.

Actually sounds pretty cool haha. FB does the payment thing so I would figure that should be added to Twitter. Overall seems like an easy thing to mimic. I dont know the popularity of Twitter globally though. Calling feature would be a nice addition but it just seems like Twitter is more setup as a public forum vs private stuff. Will see I guess. After paying so much it would be a good idea to expand.
