We are finally nearing a point where we will have a group of elderly former mma fighters.

Former legends and old fighters will be hitting their 50s and 60s soon.

The long term effects of MMA are relatively unknown since it’s such a new sport.

Do you anticipate we are about to see a bunch of old brain damaged people passing earlier than other elderly people?

Will it be a black mark on the sport?

How will Fedor and Mirko’s bodies hold up over the next 10 years? Wanderlei? Liddell?

BJ Penn?

How many punch drunk old men will we have?

If MMA is more brutal than boxing, we gonna see a lot more casualties.

It was worth the crippling CTE for that 3000 dollar paycheck from Dana

We already have Mark Coleman and Gary Goodrige
Old and hip-replacement Coleman still threw Rogan around like small pillow but he's probably not going to look so good in a few years.

Neither is Rogan if his head gets any bigger tbh

Many would-be UFC fighter they was transition to #PowerSlap due to better pay and safety concern, as subconcussive blows which was sustain in MMA training maybe was too much accumulation CTE. Sad realities.

can't wait to read the smart-guy posts from the high road, while you all tune in for the next concussion show.
Theres just some things that will be unavoidable if you decide to fight for a living, especially some of these guys fighting for 20 years.

Mirko only stopped after he had a fuckin stroke. He does thankfully seem fine when you see him in interviews today.

Sadly they are incomparible.
I had a few fights back in the early 2000s amd nobody batted an eye that I was concussed 4 weeks prior to the following bout.

I mentioned in previous thread about the onus on UFC (specific for new fighters) that brain health needs reviewing but back then, you could get k.o'd week in, week out.

I think that a research pool from maybe 2015 onwards is a good starting point but results will always be skewed. Training, sparring, medical checks are still changing as we type.

Lol at OP saying the effects of MMA are still unknown.
Chuck particularly relied on taking a blow to give one and partied hard the whole time.

I don't know if the effects are fully understood yet. If anything I think it might get a lot worse. We are certainly getting more case studies all the time.

Parkinson's. You'll see more and more of it in the coming years.

Yes, it's likely worse than we even expect. Of the NFL players brains who've been examined post-mortem I think like 80% showed signs of CTE.

I don't believe any former MMA fighters have had their brains examined in that way to date but while the percentage may not be exactly as high it's likely high enough.

We do know now even a few concussions in ones life can have permanent effects on the brain. That is not up for speculation.
