No Spoilers Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

2H Frozen Pata is epic, that is all.

Now I'm pumping my Faith up to 26 to see if this spell is worth a shit

So many flavours......as many are aware, this is literally the only game I've sunk time into over the last two years. Probably 800 hours or so....

This is like a heroin junky getting a new 2 year fix in one shot.

Fuck me.

After getting whooped by Rellana a few times i've been spending time exploring the map and finding loot, locations and bosses while i plucked up the courage to fight her again.

I started to lose hope but just managed to take her down after 10-15 attempts. I've been used the Millady sword with blood infusion and my trusty Quickstep. After finding the FP regen talisman i can use Quickstep almost infinitely.

She was definitely more of a challenge than anything in the base game for me. Even Malenia didn't give me this much trouble. If this is just a taste of things to come then i don't know how i'm gonna do it. Just don't give up i guess.

It's S-Tier, Korean level shit right now. I'm pretty sure they'll tone a lot down in some near patches. Some frame rate issues combined with insane enemy patterns and attacks, just brutal. But I'll be honest, I couldn't be happier. I'm a sadist for this game, I'm all in. It's all I need. I have a problem.

Beat hippo and through the keep (felt empty like there should've been more enemies?) and now I'm kinda stuck.

Currently at rauh ancient ruins west. Took a quick ride through the next area with the bouncing fireballs and giant archer... do I have to ride towards him or is there something to do here?

Just take it in and explore. I always enjoy the first run completely guide free, using intuition, just taking my time. NG+ the refining starts.

I'm at the Hippo myself so I probably can't offer any forward advice anyway. Happy trails.

I'm only a couple areas ahead of you.

The giant archer is like the ones in caelid so not much time to look around. Plus I got 100k souls on me so I'm gonna gun it past him and hopefully not suicide myself.

Pro Tip: Maxed out Anvil Hammer is ludicrously OP. The AOW is insane and this thing slaps. STR/FAI build best friend if you're looking melee!
Haven't tried that one yet. I just picked up a new great hammer a few minutes ago so make sure you fight the crucible knight standing on the rock. But get the bonfire first just past him.

How much damage maxed out?

I'm still using my great stars from ng. Doing 500 physical + 200 magic.

Mohg's spear is carrying me through the content.

Ambush? Nah, just bleed everything from around the corner.

Pesky dogs / birds? Don't worry we don't need to target, just bleed.

Rock centipede shooting laser beams from 100 yards away? Get in range with a rock for cover and just bleed.

Disappointed how frugal the rune drops are in the DLC. Scrub spearman poke me and a third of my HP is gone, then drop some breadcrumbs for my troubles giving them eternal rest. Bosses same.

Been playing every day since release. The masterful art direction is classic From and carries everything from excessive clipping of assets to unnaturally poor wind/flora physics.

You guys who haven’t played Horizon Forbidden West for example will have your breath stolen by the immersive majesty of Guerilla’s world design in comparison; combat poor compared to ER, though. Can’t have everything, can we? *kicks rocks

Bosses have been…wars of attrition and more of the co-op design theory I have of the base game where as a baseline things feel programmed around a duo. ATK windows narrow AF (player), excessive ATK chains (enemy), HP bars from Mars, arena-leaping cracked movement, dead in 2-3 hits. Ouchies. Am persevering.

New armors/garb are some of the most beautiful accoutrement From has ever designed. Great stuff. I love how the Black Knights (mounted ones with shield + greathammer) will chase and remount their steed if knocked off. Looks so real or natural. Brilliant pathfinding (programming) there.

Old Hunters > SotE by a country mile for me though, if that’s come up at all and not that it need to. Good expansion.

Just started it. Took out blackknight by just rushing him down and keeping him stun locked and bleeding procs. Does the color palette change? Seems a little blah at the starting areas.

Old thunder ram didn't like me prancing through his little area... Dick.
Yeah, the palette takes on more juxtaposition as you make headway and leave the early-expansion muddying brown-reds. Had similar impression myself.

The sky in particular really pops in some places and complements more a change in scenery.

The scoring in some places is magnificent too for the full package. Think slow percussive war drums with cello as you’re roofside and about to drop in on some cathedral ceiling beams in stealthy descent. It’s rad as hell, honestly.

It’s after the hippo boss at the start of the shadow keep. On the bridge where you’re attacked by some vulgar militia there’s a ladder down to the moat that leads to a series of tunnels that eventually lead down to those ruins in the river.

Behold me finding the ladder. Lol thanks for the directions.

I was liking this reskin until the adds showed up. Not sure I have the patience for this one.
