I think if he moves up it's permanent. He's big for LW and already has a tough time making weight there. He'll hopefully spend time putting on good weight like Whittaker did before moving to MW.

Hard for me to see Islam having that level of success up a class.

The strength advantage won’t be the same and his takedowns aren’t the greatest.

Gotta give him credit though, thought DP really turned the momentum in that fight and he went out and finished it late.

Yet these are two weightclasses where a lot of if not the most migrations occured to the higher one and they hapenned to be quite succesful. Some ex-LWs even fought for the title. Examples: Burns, Masvidal, Nate, BJ Penn, Dos Anjos

Of course there can be some degree of success but actually not that much looking at the examples you bring from a 20 years period.
Burns, Masvidal and BJ got finished. Nate didnt fight for the WW tittle. Dos Anjos fought for an interim - and lost.

Anything can happen and Islam is a big LW, but to say Leon would be an easier fight for him than Dustin is just stupid

Because he was no longer the champ, that's why he had to "earn" a titleshot. In what world do you earn a titleshot in a new division, with only one win ?

It don't matter if he champ or not, going up a weight class shouldn't ever get you a title shot. There is a reason why weight classes exist and why they killing their selves to make weight. Islam and Volk too scared to move up and earn it, bc they know they get their ass whooped. IF they had to actually earn a title shot in the higher weight class, none of this bullshit double division talk would exist. They only want the easy way with built in excuses prebaked in for them.
