Just that, I wasn't sure if you were a Bible literalist, and took everything to heart, or if you just acknowledged the pros and cons of Christianity as a culture over the years. Sometimes I feel the concept of a God is irrelevant, as long as good deeds remain to be done in it's name.

There is no reason to take say the stories in Genesis as literal objective scientific truth. The Fundamentalists do but Catholics don't and neither do Orthodox.

God is relevant because so much of our morality is "because God said so". You take that out, then it is whatever those in power say.

Hasn't it always been that way, though? Societal laws were always dictated by humans - some were influenced by Christianity, others elsewhere. America is no different in deciding for itself what laws it wants. Times change, societies evolve. It's why slavery was still normal up until 150~ years ago. Not because "God said so", but because people said so.

The basis of Christianity was the Jewish god taking on an earthly form and coming to Earth. Also there are instances in the OT/Torah of the Juedo god taking a life form of sorts

It has always been because God or the Gods said so, except for totalitarian states where the government assumes God's status.

You know humanism, the kind you enjoy in the west, you know where this originated? In the Judeo-Christian claim that humans were created in God's image and have the spark of the divine in them. This is what makes us special. This is what makes the state subject to the individual. That is why we must have a certain level of respect for every human even if they are despicable.

Without God you don't have that.

Plus I'd say lots of people put the laws of God above the laws of state...although in the USA we were lucky that the founders were Christiains or at least under christian influence.
