Cliffs:

- Some stuff about how nice Chicago is blah blah
- Plans to fight Khamzat head on and not try to avoid the bullying. 'If you want to bully me, let's go' mentality.
- To question of how much is his walk around weight and how far he is away from 185 lbs, he said he walks around at 225 - 230 lbs and he slims down. He is cutting weight and is on-point right now.
- Everyone at championship level is equally good with minor differences. Anyone can win. It is the mindset that sets him apart where he considers him mentally unbreakable
- To the question of moving up, he said the middleweight is very exciting and a lot of reshuffling happening so he does not plan to move up. Eventually, he will move up.
- With the iconic building, he wants to make a statement and wants to make a big impact when he gets into the Octagon.
- Does not like ice hockey
- Against the question of a 6'7" 320 lbs footballer, he says strength for strength, "I am not winning that', but will need to have use skills for skills, agility, speed to overcome.

And another one

Walks around around 230lbs, he's huge. I expect Chimaev to be shocked when he feels du Plessis's strength.

I had read for many months that he has added lean muscle and is walking around 230 lbs in camp, but never had an official confirmation until today. He is cutting from 230 lbs down to 185 lbs. That is crazy amount of weight cut. He looks happy with how his weight cut is going so hopefully, he would be fully replenished when he steps in the cage.

Huge!

I've noticed he always wants plenty of time between fights, and I'm sure it's because of the cut. No problem with that, he always makes weight.

No that is not how weight cutting works. "Walk around" weight describes your weight before or at the start of camp.

He has been dieting by now for weeks and is not 230lbs at this point.

If he's re-hydrating to 212lbs that would be 15% (the upper end of what CSAC allows)

For reference, Costa gained 29.7lbs (16%) at UFC 298, published by CSAC. So he weighed 215lbs in the cage.

I am not saying he will be 230 lbs fight night at all. That would be bad for cardio. Just saying, he will be heavier than usual with the added muscle. His weight was fluctuating between 213 - 215 lbs for the 5 round fights. For example, he was 213 lbs for the first Strickland fight. This time, he might be heavier than 215 lbs. That is my theory going in.

Will be very interesting to see how the grappling exchanges go down.

Dricus is tard strong, but Khamzat has crazy fast shoots and is solid on the ground.

This match up is fascinating on many levels. Hoping for a war.

I don't really like him, but I have to admit, I appreciate his attitude:

  1. He isn't already mouthing off about jumping weight classes.
  2. He seems honest about his weight and, I guess, puts in the work to cut responsibly. It's still too much weight, which is one of the reasons he's so dominant; however, he seems really self-aware, which is nice.
  3. "Everyone at the championship level is equally good, with only minor differences. Anyone can win." This is what I've believed for a while now. Imagine how awesome MMA internet forums would be if everyone realized this reality. It's also why champions need minimum rules in place, so they know what they're getting into, and this recent trend of ducking amazing athletes in their prime would stop.

The guy seems really smart. I don't like him, but I have to admit, it's hard not to.

You verbatim said "He is cutting from 230 lbs down to 185 lbs. That is crazy amount of weight cut" and I replied saying, no he absolutely is not cutting from 230lbs, and no it will not be a crazy amount of weight to cut since he'll already have been dieting for weeks/months.

re: weight vs Strickland, we have no idea what he weighed in cage because the commissions in Australia do not officially release that info.

If you haven't fought in California, we don't know your true fight night weight.

DDP does seem to have an unshakable mentality, every time you count the guy out, he guts through anything his way. Going to be interesting how he retains that if he's on his back a few rounds. He pushed through Brunson, but I don't think Khamzat is going to wilt like 40 year old Brunson. Also for everyone saying Khamzat has 1 good round of cardio will probably be surprised when it looks differently than they expect.

Also think DDP being big isn't the best strategy for Khamzat, he should be coming in light for cardio to last longer. I don't think I've seen many just power out from wrestlers expecting a later finish. I don't think the size difference will matter much anyways.

Yeah, he was around 230 lbs in most of the camp, I believe. He looks it from the footage I have seen. I agree, he did start his cut from around 230 lbs a few weeks ago, but he has been in camp for months. He really looks that big in most of the camp pictures and videos. That is what I had read. Whether it was a few weeks ago or not, that is not my point. I just think he will be most likely heavier than his usual 215 lbs fight night weight.

The 213 lbs was relesaed from the first fight. It was in Toronto. Not Australia. I remember someone quoting the source in a thread here after the UFC 297.

Where is your source?

This fight was under the Ontario commission and they do not publicly release fighter weights from fight night.

Source was posted in a thread a long time ago when the first fight happened. You can feel free to go through and see if you can find it.

Case in point, he always fights around 215 lbs give or take. That is a fact. With the added muscle, I am expecting him to be bigger in this fight. You can wait and see for yourself.

Well he doing s&c with that old guy who was TJ's coach when he popped for EPO; so there's that aspect.

You don't have a source because it does not exist, you just fell for some random blog / sherdog post.

Ontario does not publish fight night weights. You have no idea what Dricus weighs in the cage.

Yes, I do. Dricus said he got into the cage without clothes at 96.5 KG after the Strickland fight, which is 213 lbs. I just don't have the source that was quoted by someone here in the forum after the Toronto fight posting his actual fight night weight. At the time, he said his walk around weight was 222 lbs.

"Trust me bro" is not a source.

A source is when a commission weighs a fighter on fight night on an official scale and then publishes it publicly.

We have no idea what Dricus weighs in the cage until that happens.
