Media Dricus Du Plessis TKO Robert Whittaker GIFS

He didn't look mentally in the fight (i.e. that he actually wanted to be in there) at the start of round 2.

Something changed in him after the Izzy KO, which isn't surprising - fighters are rarely the same after bad KO's and that one is absolutely brutal (plus happened twice in the same fight basically).

Now as soon as he's hurt he looks like he's trying to survive, where before he'd almost immediately be throwing back with serious heat.

Yeah, I made a post prior to the fight about how I admired his durability and referred to all the wars and the brutal KO's he's had, all the 5 round camps, long career etc and he STILL has managed to keep up with the best. A fighter usually goes through 1/3 of the tough fights Whittaker has had and loses their step, loses a piece of them inside of the octagon. I think in this fight we finally got to see that piece show up missing.

I'm still not entirely sure what to make of the rise of DuPlessis. I wasn't impressed by his Till win. I thought Till looked awful. I wasn't impressed by his Brunson win. I thought Brunson looked awful. I don't remember anything about the Tavares fight. I thought he looked much stronger than Whittaker but I also thought Whittaker looked awful. Is DuPlessis the real deal or his has his path to the title lacked any real resistance? None of his past 4 fights have looked like top 10 wins to me.

What am I missing here? I thought the Whittaker fight would really provide the info I need to make a better assessment of Dricus but it ended up being more of an update on where Whittaker belongs in the division. Have his opponents been (dare I say it) overrated? Till is gone. Brunson looks ready for retirement. Whittaker looked like he needs to go back to the drawing board at the very least. I just can't tell if these guys have become pushovers or if DuPlessis is making them look like pushovers. I respect all these guys as fighters by the way.
