Dragonlord's 2015 Movie Guide

I went to see EX MACHINA this weekend good movie though it gets a little slow in the middle. The CEO reminds me of a Sherdog poster he goes out hits the heavy bag and drinks all the time! :)

Rotten Tomatoes: 75% Approval Rating (172 out of 228 critics like it)

Critics Consensus: Exuberant and eye-popping, Avengers: Age of Ultron serves as an overstuffed but mostly satisfying sequel, reuniting its predecessor's unwieldy cast with a few new additions and a worthy foe.

Dragonlord's Review: Falls short from the benchmark set by the first film, Avengers: Age of Ultron is at its finest when it focuses on the well-executed superhero whiz-bang action. 7.5/10

Just saw the Avengers this afternoon. I think I prefer the first one. Not bad, just felt the first one flowed better.

Trailers that were shown at my theatre were Jurrasic World, Fantastic Four, Ant-Man, San Andreas, Tomorrowland, Star Wars. The Star Wars trailer was the one with Han and Chewie at the end, where Han says "Chewie, we're home". Seeing that classic Lucasfilm Ltd. on the big screen and then hearing the music got me super pumped.

Weekend Box Office:

AGE OF ULTRON 2nd Biggest Opening of All Time with $191.3M

Avengers-Ultron-Opening-050215-Dragonlord.jpg

Continuing a winning streak, Disney's Monday actual figures show Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron opening to $191.3 million from 4,276 theaters in North America, the No. 2 opening of all time behind The Avengers. The film performed better than expected Sunday, when estimates put the three-day take at $187.7 million.

Overseas, where the summer's first tentpole began opening last weekend, Age of Ultron earned another $168 million from 88 territories for a foreign total of $439 million and early worldwide haul of $631 million. In North America, all eyes were on the sequel to see if it could beat the $207.4 million debut of the first Avengers on the same weekend in 2012 and become the new champ. Instead, it came in more than 9 percent behind.

As the weekend wore on, it became apparent that Saturday night's Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight was hurting Ultron in a big way. Some box office observers believe the movie could have approached $200 milion were it not for competition from the PPV event. Moviegoing tumbled 40 percent from Friday to Saturday in Los Angeles and San Francisco, for instance, and more than 50 percent in some Hispanic markets, such as El Paso, Texas.

Costing $89-$99 to watch, the fight is expected to have generated hundreds of millions in revenue. Additionally, thousands watched the fight on pirate sites. "The fight dinged all films across the board. The numbers on Ultron are still phenomenal but definitely less than they would have been," said one rival studio executive.

Disney and Marvel now boast the top three opening weekends of all time domestically, thanks to the two Avengers entries and Iron Man 3, which debuted to $174.1 million in May 2013. Age of Ultron pushes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 ($169.2 million) to No. 4.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Tops 2nd Week With $77.1 Million

Avengers-Black-Widow-Hulk-Sokovia-Dragonlord.jpg

In its second weekend, Avengers: Age of Ultron remained a force of nature, topping the chart with $77.1 million from 4,276 screens to jump the $300 million mark domestically in only 10 days and putting its world total at a stunning $875.3 million. The tentpole enjoyed the second-biggest sophomore weekend of all time after the first Avengers ($865.3 million), and tied with The Dark Knight to become the fastest film to reach $300 million behind Avengers (nine days).

Still, Age of Ultron fell more than expected in in North America, or 59.6 percent, compared to 50.3 percent for its predecessor. However, overseas, it continues to pace well ahead of Avengers, even though it has yet to open in China and Japan. For the weekend, it earned $68 million for a foreign total of $562.4 million.

Mother's Day weekend saw new offerings from Reese Witherspoon, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jack Black all stumble at the North American box office, albeit to varying degrees. Hot Pursuit placed No. 2 with a disappointing $13.3 million from 3,004 theaters. Terrible reviews, and a C+ CinemaScore from audiences, surely hurt the MGM and New Line title, which marks the second-worst nationwide opening for a Witherspoon comedy.

Making a limited play was Maggie, the Arnold Schwarzenegger-Abigail Breslin zombie thriller. The movie opened to a meek $131,000 from 79 theaters. To date, Schwarzenegger has been unable to revitalize his big screen career, but this summer's Terminator: Genisys could bring a needed boost.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Hits $77.1 Million Domestically and $875.3 Million Worldwide

First Critics Reviews of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Rotten Tomatoes: 100% Approval Rating (16 out of 16 critics like it)

Mad-Max-Hugh-Keays-Byrne-051115-Dragonlord.jpg

CinemaBlend.com - 4.5/5
As crazy, thrilling, gorgeous and awesome as anyone could really hope, and guaranteed to be one of the best big-screen spectacles of the year. Mad Max: Fury Road is a special film. It’s bombastically entertaining and action packed, but it doesn’t disregard emotion and story; and it’s a fitting follow-up that will make lovers of the Road Warrior giddy. But it’s also entirely accessible to those who have never even heard of the Mel Gibson-starring films. It’s a tremendous cinematic experience courtesy of George Miller, and a must-see.

ComingSoon.net - 8/10
Like being given a look into the brain of an insane drug-fueled alien, George Miller’s genius as a visionary helps make Mad Max: Fury Road one of those rare cases when a filmmaker returns to their groundbreaking franchise and manages to create something just as game-changing. Other than the at-times wonky dialogue, the only other thing that might be considered a negative, keeping Mad Max: Fury Road from receiving an absolute rave, is that it may get a little too crazy at times for those used to more grounded storytelling.

ScreenCrush - 9/10
Even though this is the fourth Mad Max, and it’s indebted to the style of the previous films, Fury Road stands alone. It’s better looking and more thrilling than any of the other installments. The color palette is vibrant and beautiful, and every inch of the frame is crammed with crazy, brilliant ideas. (You’ll never guess where the citadel gets its milk from.) And, of course, the vehicular action is instantly in the conversation for the best ever made. They’ll keep making car chase movies after Fury Road, but there’s really no need. It’s hard to imagine these great visionary wonders ever being topped.

Uproxx - 8/10
The whole movie is one big long car chase across the desert, filled with stunts and car wrecks and a noticeable lack of CGI. Watching Mad Max: Fury Road is like watching the circus. It really is just non-stop “stuff,” but not in an intrusive way. Compared to Fury Road, The Road Warrior seems very tame. As a contrast, Tom Hardy’s Max is legitimately mad, in both an angry way and a crazy way; he’s constantly having flashbacks to a young girl who dies that Max couldn’t save.

HeyUGuys - 5/5
From the first frame of the film the audience can’t help but smile in enjoyment of the visuals, sound and the blistering pace of the film. It truly is a roller coaster ride of a film. The action is unbelievable, the effects are incredible, and the world created by director George Miller is mesmerizing. Mad Max: Fury Road is everything you could ask for from a summer movie and more. Not since 300 has there been a movie more heavy metal, as beautiful and insane as this.

Forbes - 10/10
Mad Max: Fury Road is a remarkable and glorious motion picture, not just one of the great action movies of our time but also a great film, period. On paper it looks like everything I complain about, and yet it is an unmitigated masterpiece. And if every past-its-prime franchise extension and nostalgia-fueled reboot were anywhere near as good as Mad Max: Fury Road, we’d have little about which to complain.

TwitchFilm - A+
With a propelling score, some astonishingly beautiful locations captured in Namibia and South Africa, a slew of gritty characters and some of the best car chase sequences every captured for cinema, audiences have got from this fourth film in the series more than they could have ever expected. Fury Road is in the literal sense amazing, a wonderous blast of fun that's sure to warm the heart of even the most jaded anti-blockbuster audience member. Go see this film, and then go see it again... and again. Mad Max: Fury Road may have been twenty five years in the making, but it was worth every second it took.

are there reviews for tomorrowland? was listening to a podcast and one the panelist on there was really hyping up this movie.

I thought The D Train was was a porno. Might go watch a movie tomorrow can't decide between The Avengers or Mad Max.

Go with Mad Max: Fury Road. I've seen it and it's insanely awesome.

10/10 for me.

Dragonlord's Review of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
(No Spoilers)

Bottom Line: Brutal, relentless and makes the Fast & Furious films look like Cannonball Run movies, George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road is a balls-to-the-walls, full-throttle, high-octane, adrenaline-pumping, batshit crazy thrill ride masterpiece.

Mad-Max-Fury-Road-Dragonlords-Review_1.jpg

In a post-apocalyptic distant future, civilization has collapsed and the world is a desert wasteland. Max (Tom Hardy), a lone wanderer haunted by the deaths of his wife and daughter is captured by Immortan Joe's (Hugh Keays-Byrne) gang and is forced to become a blood bag for their sick soldiers. Max gets dragged into a war party chase when Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) betrays Joe and smuggles his five wives to freedom. Max and Furiosa eventually have to work together to survive Immortan Joe's wrath and the harsh landscape.

Despite the tumultuous production and naysayers, director George Miller revisits the Mad Max world with some brand new tricks and has transformed Fury Road into one of the best action films of all time, not to mention the best of its genre. Despite making only children films (Babe, Happy Feet 1 and 2) and dramas for the past 30 years (his last action movie was 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome), the 70-year-old Australian filmmaker hasn't lost a step as the film immediately sucks you in with its fast, frenetic action, bizarrely captivating characters and alluring and savage world.

The plot is fairly straightforward and dialogue is kept at a minimum, Fury Road is basically one long epic chase sequence that will keep you riveted from start to finish. Miller accurately described it as a "western on wheels." Impressively, 80% of the film utilizes real practical effects and stuntwork according to reports. Part of the charm in the Mad Max films are the cars, Fury Road boasts numerous Frankenstein-patched, souped up vehicles that are grotesque yet alluringly beautiful. In spite of all the chaos happening around, the gonzo action scenes are very clear and comprehensible.

Tom Hardy does a terrific job of taking over as Max, the role famously played by Mel Gibson. Hardy's characterization of Max is slightly different. Haunted by both the dead and the living, Max is like a force of nature who has been reduced to a single instinct - survive. Plus he's literally mad, as in a little insane. Who can blame him? The characters in the film have to be a little mad to live in their crazy world. This also validates my belief for years that Hardy would make an excellent Wolverine. Though they share equal billing and relatively the same screen time, it is Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa that is the hero and her redemption arc is the focal point of the story. Furiosa undoubtedly will go down as one of the badass action heroines in cinema.

Miller isn't the only one coming back to the franchise as original Mad Max villain actor Hugh Keays-Byrne returns to play Immortan Joe, the tyrannical cult leader of the War Boys. Nicholas Hoult plays Nux, one of the important supporting characters and gives the audience a fanatical adernaline-rushed point of view from the War Boy's perspective. Nux also gets the best lines in the film: "Oh what a day, what a lovely day!" and "I live, I die. I LIVE AGAIN!" Rosie Huntington-Whiteley plays The Splendid Angharad, one of the Immortan Joe's wives. She is just stunningly gorgeous and surprisingly gives a good performance as well. Can't believe this is just her second feature film aside from Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Hope she does more films in the future.

From the exhilarating high-octane chase sequence, beautiful cinematography and magnificent landscape Mad Max: Fury Road is a cinematic masterpiece and a must-see for action lovers.

Rating: 10/10

mediocre!!

In all seriousness why doesn't mad max appeal to the general pop as oppose to something like Terminator 2?

Terminator 2 starred one of the biggest and most beloved actors in a big budget sci-fi action extravaganza that was also a highly-anticipated sequel to a beloved film.

Mad Max: Fury Road appeal to certain demographics. Casual viewers watch the trailer and they see an unappealing post-apocalyptic world filled with scary, crazy looking characters. It's not hard to imagine why this isn't their cup of tea. They'll probably see it down the road, just not in a rush to watch it in a theater. Plus, I have stated this theory before that there's just something unappealing about movies with desert setting that just subconsciously turns off people.

Terminator 2 was a sequel, so is Pitch Perfect.

If they made 2 more Mad Max movies, guaranteed it does huge numbers because the fan base will keep growing.

Just look at Fast & Furious. It took 7 movies for them to get these numbers, because each time, the numbers go up.
