Dragonlord's 2015 Movie Guide

I'm talking about critic's reviews, not girls who haven't mastered their bladders yet

I saw Run All Night on the weekend. The "just rotten" rating on RT is about right.

It delivers about what you expect the way you expect it to, and nothing else.

Run All Night

This is one of those movies where it's exactly as advertised. Lots of style, and lots of action. And the action is really good. It's worth checking out if you want to see a good action movie.

8/10

The Gunman

Entertaining movie.

It's a cliched action movie with elements of a political thriller.

The strength of this movie is with the director. This movie just looks great. The different actions scenes are excellent and well edited, and there's a great use of music. It's from the same director as Taken (the first one). This director really needs to get hired to do a Bond film someday. He's got the perfect style for it.

Sean Penn also does a great job as an action hero lead.

8/10

Go see it.

when does it follows get released nation wide?

Good news. It Follows expands to 40 theaters this weekend and more than 1,000 theaters next weekend.

Update: March 20, 2015

IT FOLLOWS Getting a Wide Release; VOD Release Delayed

It-Follows-032015-Dragonlord.jpg

After a very promising first weekend in theaters, Radius-TWC has opted to delay the planned March 27 video-on-demand release of horror pic It Follows in favor of a wide theatrical expansion over the next two weekends.

Weekend Box Office:

INSURGENT Surges to $54 Million Debut; THE GUNMAN Bombs

Insurgent-James-Teller-Woodley-032215-Dragonlord.jpg

The Divergent Series: Insurgent opened to an estimated $54 million, which is nearly identical to its predecessor's $54.6 million on this same weekend last year. Opening in 76 markets, Insurgent led the international box office this weekend with an estimated $47 million.

Insurgent's domestic audience was 60 percent female, which is actually a slight uptick from the first movie's 59 percent share. That's ironic, considering how much attention seemed to be paid to positioning this as an action-packed sci-fi thriller (as opposed to a young-adult romance). The movie received a solid "A-" CinemaScore, and should hold up decently in the coming weeks. A total north of $130 million seems likely.

Opening at 2,816 locations, The Gunman bombed with an estimated $5 million. That debut is essentially on the same level as early 2015 disasters Mortdecai ($4.2 million), Unfinished Business ($4.8 million) and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 ($5.96 million). It also opened to a fraction of last year's Taken imitator, 3 Days to Kill ($12.2 million).

This subgenre has been dying a slow death in recent years. With the Taken franchise officially over, and The Gunman bombing the way it did, maybe it's time to officially call it a day here. With The Gunman poised to lose most of its theaters heading in to its third weekend, look it to wind up with a final total in the $10 to $12 million range.

In its sixth weekend in theaters, Kingsman: The Secret Service eased 26 percent to an estimated $4.6 million. Matthew Vaughn's well-received comic book adaptation has now grossed $114.6 million total.

HOME Takes First with $54 Million; GET HARD Solid in Second

Home-DreamWorks-032915-Dragonlord.jpg

DreamWorks Animation's Home (2015) was a huge hit with family moviegoers this weekend, taking first place with an excellent $54 million. Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard also put up strong numbers in second place, while indie horror movie It Follows did decent business in its nationwide expansion.

Home also ranks as one of the top non-sequel movies ever for DreamWorks, behind Kung Fu Panda ($60.2 million) and Monsters Vs. Aliens ($59.3 million). In fact, it's the biggest debut for a DreamWorks movie since its distribution deal began with 20th Century Fox in early 2013; that includes How to Train Your Dragon 2, which opened to $49.5 million last June.

While Home easily took first place, Get Hard was no slouch either: playing at 3,175 locations, the R-rated comedy opened to an estimated $34.6 million this weekend. That ranks third all-time among live-action Ferrell movies, and ranks second among Hart's recent slew of leading roles (behind Ride Along).

Indie horror flick It Follows expanded to 1,218 locations and took fifth place with an estimated $4.02 million this weekend. That's a solid result considering the movie relied almost exclusively on word-of-mouth, social media marketing, and strong reviews (as opposed to a more traditional marketing effort). Distributor Radius-TWC is planning on further expanding the movie next weekend.

While We're Young is solid. It could have easily come off as pretentious but it's funny.

Just watched this. as someone who rather enjoys camping this was fucking terrifying. incredibly well made movie. 90 of the most tense minutes ever. Has probably one of the most terrifyingly real scenes I think I have ever watched in a survival movie.

10/10

would watch again, but I don't think my psyche could handle it

Cool, I almost watched this last night. Will check it out later in the week.

Rotten Tomatoes: 47% Approval Rating (34 out of 72 critics like it)

Critics Consensus: Woman in Gold benefits from its talented leads, but strong work from Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds isn't enough to overpower a disappointingly dull treatment of a fascinating true story.

Rotten Tomatoes: 14% Approval Rating (3 out of 21 out of critics like it)

Critics Consensus: As blandly unimaginative as its title, Last Knights revisits well-worn sword-and-sandal tropes without adding anything new -- or interesting -- to the genre.

Friday Box Office:

FURIOUS 7 Tops Friday With $67.3M for Huge $150M US Debut

Furious-7-040415-Dragonlord.jpg

Universal's Furious 7 topped the Friday box office with a massive $67.3 for a projected $150 million domestic debut — the largest opening in North America since fall 2013 and the best April showing of all time.

Furious 7 — the final film featuring the late Paul Walker — is opening around the globe this weekend and earned a record-breaking $60 million internationally on Wednesday and Thursday for a worldwide debut well north of $300 million by the end of Easter Sunday.

The movie is easily ouptacing any previous title in the franchise, including blockbuster Fast and Furious 6, which topped out at $789 million worldwide. Few Hollywood franchises have shown this sort of resilience. Furious 7 will easily beat the $121.9 million launch of The Hunger Games Mockingjay — Part 1 in November 2104, making it the largest three-day opening since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($158 million) in November 2013.

Earning an A CinemaScore, Furious 7 is getting the widest release in Universal's history. The current record-holder for top April opening domestically is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which debuted to a record $95 million from 3,928 theaters on the same weekend in 2014.

James Berardinelli - 3/4
Furious Seven provides what viewers have come to expect from the long-running The Fast and the Furious series: a string of high-octane, physics-defying action scenes loosely connected by a narrative that occasionally makes rudimentary sense. This time around, however, real-life events dampen the film's fun quotient. The untimely death of Paul Walker looms large. Every time Walker's character, Brian O'Connor, walks on screen, we're reminded of that. This lends a poignancy to the proceedings that none of the other The Fast and the Furious movies have had.

Entertainment Weekly - B
At this rate, the next chapter will have to take place in outer space. Fast & Furious: Venusian Drift. So how’s the movie? Well, it’s both awesome and ridiculous. The acting is mostly lame, the dialogue is entirely laughable, and the story makes absolutely no sense. The biggest surprise in the movie is how poignantly and tastefully it pays tribute to the star, who, by all accounts, was as devoted a family man off screen as he was on it.

New York Daily News - 4/5
“Furious 7” is the biggest, silliest movie in the “Fast and Furious” franchise, officially transforming the series into “The Avengers” with muscle cars. But what’s wrong with big and silly? Directed with over-the-top panache by horror maestro James Wan (“Saw,” “Insidious”), the film is a live-action cartoon starring caricatures rather than characters. But, hey, these are charismatic personalities played by actors in on the joke. They maintain straight faces as they sell their macho dialogue and drive sports cars off the Burj Khalifa.

Rolling Stone - 3.5/4
It probably seems lame to call Furious 7 a family film. But what the fuck, it is — the family being the audiences that have stuck with this car-porn franchise, thick and thin, since the first chapter, in 2001. And the family of actors and crew who have gathered here to pay tribute to one of their own. The filmmakers have figured out an ingenious and graceful way to give Brian a happy ending of sorts. If you've given your heart to Walker and the F&F crew, you can't help but well up.

FURIOUS 7 Breaks April Record with Huge $143.6 Million Debut

Furious-7-Rock-Statham-Dragonlord.jpg

Rivaling the staying power of Hollywood's most iconic franchises — think Harry Potter and James Bond — Universal's Furious 7 raced to a $143.6 million debut at the North American box office and $240.4 million overseas for a massive worldwide launch of $384 million.

The movie broke numerous records, delivering a series best and the biggest launch for any movie domestically since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in November 2013. Globally, it is the fourth-highest opening of all time behind the final Harry Potter film ($483.2 million), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($394.4 million) and The Avengers ($392.5 million).

Furious 7 marks the top opening ever for the month of April, and further proves that tentpoles can do huge business outside of summer. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the previous record holder with $95 million on the same weekend a year ago.

Elsewhere, Radius-TWC and Dimension took a gamble in further expanding critically acclaimed horror film It Follows this weekend despite the onslaught of Furious 7. The film, upping its theater count from 1,218 to 1,655, grossed $2.5 million to come in No. 6. It Follows' cume is $8.5 million.

At the specialty box office, The Woman in Gold, starring Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds, succeeded in providing a refuge for older adultsnot so interested in Furious 7. The movie, opening in 258 theaters in select top markets, grossed a solid $2 million to come in No. 7, despite its small footprint.

Box Office Report: 'Furious 7' Scores $143.6M in U.S. for Massive $384M Global Bow

It Follows 3/10 - yea its better then most horror movies these days but that's not saying much. the bar is set so low even a bad film like this can get over it.

Run All Night 5/10 - standard Liam action flic. not bad, not great.

Cinderella 8/10 - surprisingly good. everything Disney does is first class.

Get Hard 6.5/10 - Will Ferrel plays his usual role. Not a great comedy but funny enough.

The Interview 7/10 - James Franco is underrated actor. He has all the different types of idiots down. Gangta wigger, stoner, celebrity douche, he does it all. Seth Rogan plays pretty much the same character in every movie.

I personally give Chappie a 10/10.

One of the best movie's I've ever seen in my life. Instantly an all time favorite.
