Yeah no extra early access for me. I just got the actual shipped notice from PS Direct.![]()
Looks like it unlocks at the same time everywhere.
That sucks. I don't know whether to believe it but some people swear they're playing already. Apparently discs still require a download but there's no hold on it so you should be able to play pretty much as soon as it's delivered.Yeah no extra early access for me. I just got the actual shipped notice from PS Direct.

Did anybody mention yet that The Dark Ages will only have 85 MB on the disc and the rest must be downloaded? At what point do you think the physical collectors will just give up and go digital? They might be doing this on purpose to get people to change their purchasing habits. Look at Switch 2. They're doing some crap like this too. Got to wonder how much longer people will even want to buy the discs.
Also apparently the PS5 Pro version is barely an upgrade over the base model. Looks like it was kind of half-assed. Still looking forward to the game but there's been some disappointing news surrounding the release.

It’s almost as insulting as providing an empty case. I’m still not going digital until it’s no longer an option.Did anybody mention yet that The Dark Ages will only have 85 MB on the disc and the rest must be downloaded? I believe the RTX 2060 was the lowest spec RTX card made during that gen- anything below that was branded GTX and could not do ray tracing. I have an RTX 4080 with i7 9700k, so that should be a significant boost over the 2060, but this tester is saying the CPU may or may not be enough. The old RTX 2060 can't get anywhere near 60 fps, but that's partly down to the Core i7 9700K it was paired with. It doesn't seem to be down to a lack of threads (it's an 8-core, 8-thread CPU) but more a case of the whole system not having enough performance to ensure the 2060 is never left waiting for data or instructions.

Yeah we don't know how important the cpu is going to be yet. The required specs say it needs 8c/16t but who knows. Your cpu doesn't have hyperthreading and only has 8c/8t so it might be a bottleneck. Mine only has 6c/12t so I'm a little nervous too.Waiting to see if my PC can run it competently.
There is an article where the testers successfully got it to run on a system with an i7 9700k and an nvidia RTX 2060

I've tested Doom: The Dark Ages on cheap gaming laptops and RTX 5090 monster rigs to give you the lowdown on how the new ray traced Doom performs
Though once path tracing makes an appearance, all bets will probably be off.www.pcgamer.com
This comment does not make a lot of sense to me

You sure about that? Its Call of Doom : (
I'll wait till its $10 on Steam in a few years.
Dex just posted on this. Combat loop is arguably Doom at its best(!) but level design questionable:
Doom: The Dark Ages has an exceptional combat loop that is among the best in series history. However, in a desire to expand on a winning formula, id Software has fallen short of the high bar it set with Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal.
Although id may have changed up the formula, they’ve struck gold for a third time running. They’ve managed this by slowing down the pace and forcing players to stand their ground in what often becomes a bullet hell shooter. During its best moments, it’s one of the most satisfying FPS games I’ve played in some time.
However, monotonous level design fails to keep up the momentum in broader open areas, the story struggles greatly from pacing issues, and new dragon-riding and mech-piloting sections leave a lot to be desired.

It’s not slow in the slightest lol.I read the whole review; I'm probably going to skip this one entirely. Mick not being involved and them slowing the gameplay rubbed me the wrong way from the onset but I was still willing to give it a chance if it was innovative but "meh" level design and so-so soundtrack is a huge turnoff.
2016 and Eternal set the bar too high and this one doesn't even have any multiplayer to speak of. They're allergic to just giving it a standard multiplayer. I also don't like my movement options being limited after experiencing Eternal.
I'm not dropping $70 for a slow "decent" Doom game with no multiplayer.
It looks slow compared to 2016 and especially Eternal. It’s not slow in the slightest lol.
