Economy Donald trump to impose Tariffs feb.1st.

Liberal or Conservative if your first move isn't to secure the border you are the traitor. The only place where any boots were put on the ground was in Alberta and guess who got a 10% Tariff instead of 25. Doug Ford and Trudeau want an open border and a trade war as opposed to a secure border and a strong economy it's as simple as that.
The border is already secure.
You're a fool if that's what you think Trump actually wants.

Speaking of this, one aspect of this situation that frustrates me a lot is that Canada failed to learn that lesson the first time Trump was president and enacted tariffs on us. I said at the time that the one bright side might be if we took it as sign we need to diversify our trade relationships. Hopefully, a second slap in the face will get people to wake up, and move their heads to avoid getting slapped a third time.
Excuse my interjection: When the Federal Liberals blocked the Energy East pipeline with increased regulation, was this a good move?

Excuse my interjection: Alberta got a 10% tariff on oil. It's 25% on everything else. Hopefully, things will change before the harvest.

Mexico just folded. I expect once Trudeau is gone a better deal will be struck with Canada.

These are just the death throes of the America-Last crowd. Let the Left Cult be upset... meanwhile let our President who is a master at negotiations do what we elected him to do.

he paused the tariffs on mexico for cooperating why would Canada be any different ?
What do you mean by secure the border, you parrot that from trump but there isn't an actual plan that's be requested.

Alberta was because Trump wants that oil.

Doug ford does not want an open border, you're ignorant and I'll informed.
Canada has the biggest undefended border in the world. Some legal crossings don't even have inspection zones. People have been sounding the alarm about how weak the border is before Trump came around. With how powerful drug gangs have become in Canada we have to do more, it's not just drugs moving across that are having such a devastating impact but human trafficking as well. We have an epidemic of missing women in Canada we need to stop this regardless of Trump.

In January average daily border encounters dropped from almost 3000/day before inauguration to just over 1000/day after inauguration.
If the troops are deployed, and if inspecting additional checkpoints is what they're tasked with, no one will have an issue with that.
The concern here, is similar to the concern people had of a focus on a "big beautiful wall", that thinking this is just an issue fixed by supplying more cops and the creation of a large ice wall.
Hard to take much of what Trump does seriously when he is calling a deal he previously made bad, and is using the border to argue about tariffs he is placing on our closest allies.

Objectively, a deal that increases Mexican troops for inspections AND requires the United States to stop the smuggling of weapons from here to there is a net positive and would deserve praise. But it's also a deal we should have very easily been able to negotiate.
All of this bluster and bullshiting does nothing but erodes the credibility of the US.

Except you can't argue with the numbers (see my post above). Plus, Trump already forced Mexico to send NG to the southern border in his last administration (see @Misfit23 's post above) and it was part of a multi-strategy plan that was working before biden obliterated border security and crossings exploded in 2021 and beyond.

If you are worried about Trump's forcing Mexico and it's NG as just a singular strategy, read what else he's done so far in the executive order below.

Ops there goes a 100 million dollars and potentially billions in lost revenue to Ford motors and likely could end up closing plants. I am willing to bet some of this is the rumored Tesla factory to be built in Mexico.

TORONTO (AP) — The leader of Canada’s most populous province of Ontario said Monday he’s ripping up a contract with Elon Musk’s Starlink internet services in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Canada.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who said he is also banning American companies from provincial contracts, signed a $100-million Canadian (US$68 million) with Musk’s company in November to deliver high-speed internet to remote residents in rural and northern Ontario.

“We’ll be ripping up the province’s contract with Starlink. Ontario won’t do business with people hellbent on destroying our economy,” Ford said.

“President Trump is the only person to be blamed. Maybe Elon Musk can call his buddy? This is one of the ramifications.”

Ford said U.S.-based businesses will lose out on “tens of billions of dollars” in new revenues as a result of Ontario’s response."
