Donald Trump risks China rift with Taiwan call

All these people crying about irking a superpower in China are the same people who believe we should continue to agitate Russia.

Love the spin from the alt-left "People of color are mistreated in America" crowd. Now they're triggered that Trump might upset a government that routinely violates the human rights of 1.3 billion "people of color."

What you're pointing out is your comfort with the status quo, and that anything that challenges that status quo scares the shit out of you, because you've been conditioned to think that anything that challenges the status quo will end the world.

Typical pants shitting Lib.
No, I'm pointing out Trump is stupid and made a stupid move.

You want to act like Trump's fuck ups "aren't that bad, not like we'll get attacked"

It's hilarious that if anyone criticizes Trump doing something stupid, they're a terrified libby.

This was a stupid thing to do. Disagree? Cool, explain to me the benefits of Trump pissing off China with something so insignificant.

Jesus man, you're having problems here.

What I'm pointing out, is Trump is fucking clueless when it comes to foreign policy.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM

China isn't going to attack us over this, no shit. But it's a bad sign that our future president doesn't know wtf he's doing.

Relax. They were probably just calling to place another $1.83-billion arms order.

He improved relations with Taiwan.

Plus, I'm sure accepting a phone call doesn't piss off China more than selling Taiwan billions in arms.

LOL the only one having problems here is you. What are the ramifications of him taking the phone call?

Yet, you've agreed that there will be absolutely no ramifications to this "stupid move". If China is so mad, I guess they'll do something right? No? Then who cares? It was a phone call. Not a declaration of war.

So why was it stupid again? Something about going against the status quo that you're so comfortable with...

This he didn't make the call he took the call shit is stupid. Trump's administration facilitated the call, you can't just call the president elect directly out of the blue. A little thought please.
What difference that make in the context of it somehow being an attempt to gain personally? You have no evidence whatsoever of it, yet you're calling for "a little thought"? Put up or shut up. Let's see the evidence that he was trying to gain personally from the call.

Damn I have to agree with the conservative posters on this one. Trump is the President elect, soon to be President. He can take phone calls from whoever he wants and should. If this pisses off China or any other country they are the ones that have to deal with it. The US is still the most powerful country in the world, and the President is still the most powerful person in the world.

Careful. He's about to tell you that he "did research" on Trump for some "talk" he had to give in Hobbit Land, and that he knows everything about his motivations. When pressed for sources of his "research", he'll claim that they are buried in his garage and doesn't want to go look for them. Then, realizing how lame that excuse was, he'll Google some Trump book titles, and post them.

But according to a report in the Taipei Times, the call was "arranged by his Taiwan-friendly campaign staff after his aides briefed him on issues regarding Taiwan and the situation in the Taiwan Strait."

And the Taiwanese government suggested some planning went into the call. "Of course both sides agreed ahead of time before making contact," Alex Huan, a spokesman for Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen, told Reuters.
The readout from the Taiwanese side also suggested Taipei's motives were more than simple congratulations. “The president hopes to strengthen two-way interaction and communication and establish closer cooperative relations,” a statement from Tsai's office said. “The president also told Trump that in the future she hopes that on the question of international relations, the U.S. side can continue to help Taiwan have more chances to participate and make contributions.” The two leaders spoke about "promoting domestic economic development and strengthening national defense so that citizens can enjoy better lives and security," it said.

It's pretty dumb to just brush this off as part of biased coverage or just blind criticism to all he does. Taiwan is officially proclaimed the Republic of China, meaning that they claim to be the government of China rather than the actual one. Dealing with them, a state that's not recognized as a country by more than a handful of other countries (the US of course not being among them), is certainly an offensive political gesture towards the People's Republic of China.

This has a good chance of leading to funny developments.

China has been very aggressive in the past few years and has tried pushing the US around in the South China Sea, etc.

I think talks with Taiwan are just the right kind of pushback.

There's almost no chance that Trump even knew Taiwan was a sticky issue.
