Donald Trump Jr.'s Russia email scandal shakes the presidency, v4: Cover of TIME

It is going to take some time for all of this to break through the denial and cognitive dissonance conservatives are mustering about this, but the smart see the writing on the wall.

"In a column published Thursday night, Krauthammer said that the "Russian scandal has entered a new phase, and there's no going back."

Following a revelation this week about emails between Donald Trump Jr. and a business associate who helped arrange a meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer, Krauthammer wrote that the "evidence is now shown." "This is not hearsay, not fake news, not unsourced leaks," Krauthammer wrote. "This is an email chain released by Donald Trump Jr. himself.""

And that was before today when we found out that Lil Donnie was hiding that this guy was at the meeting too:

"Earlier this year, Sen. Charles Grassley had written a letter to John Kelly, the secretary of Homeland Security, describing Akhmetshin as "a Russian immigrant to the United States who has been accused of acting as an unregistered agent for Russian interests and apparently has ties to Russian intelligence." Grassley was requesting "all information" on Akhmetshin's immigration history.
Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, who has been lobbied by Akhmetshin, told CNN earlier this year that the lobbyist is someone with "an ulterior motive" who is "involved with people who've got an agenda" and has "international connections to different groups in Russia." When asked if he thought Akhmetshin was connected to the Russian security services, Rohrabacher said: "I would certainly not rule that out.""

Way too early to ask about what's going to happen... We might be seeing Kushner's security clearance denied from how much he forgot to list in the initial phases.
Ok sounds like a good place to start in the WR bet thread.

Can't believe you haven't already noticed, but in your example the foreign govt didn't pay for the taco bowls.

A-team is Trump, Bannon, Conway.

Kushner, Jr, and Manafort are fuck ups. Thats why Manafort was fired and Jr. didnt make the whitehouse. Kushner has done nothing but fuck up and make trouble since he got to the Whitehouse, and I wouldnt be suprised to see him quietly cycled out, if Mueller doesnt revoke his clearance first.
Bannon and Conway weren't with the campaign yet though. Also, Trump is the candidate, so he's not part of his own "A-team". Additionally, Kushner is easily his most trusted advisor at this point after Ivanka.

In a few weeks, the wishful thinking that this will lead to some kind of impeachment will subside. When that happens, the people in this thread who were downright giddy at the prospect of imminent impeachment, will return to their tired old "We'll have to see how the rest of this investigation goes." when yet another one of their panning expeditions turns up Fool's Gold.

To those who think impeachment is likely, the whole of your efforts and the narrative you're trying to put forward will be summed up like this in due time:

"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
- Macbeth by William Shakespeare

P.S.

I'm still voting for Trump in 2020.
Finally. Common sense.

The right is starting to eat itself.
Fredo, did a number on the Trump presidency.

What a nothingburger O'Keefe's little video turned out to be.

Out of context quotes from an unassigned producer, mostly very generic stuff about padding content and an arrogant prediction from Van Jones (though not the first in human history).

On the 27th of June reeling from that perceived victory Trump blasted the "Failing New York Times" as fake news.

They really tore him a new arsehole with this story.

The right has turned into a bunch of Russian Sympathizers. The right has turned into a bunch of pinko commies.

Where were you in 2012?

And can someone explain for me what crime was committed by Fredo Trump? I agree that what he did was incredibly stupid but I fail to see how it was illegal. The only thing it does is give Trumps critics more grist for their mill and proves their political cynicism regarding pretty much everything.

If they did would it be a crime? Could the Mexican President give candidate Trump a taco bowl?

Its not clear if he disclosed Renet Akmahmoodfedorshins presence at the meeting or not.

Fredo was not an official member of the campaign, as far as I remember so no crime for him. Crooked Manafort and Jared were, so they committed the crime. Don Trump Sr , lied about it, but he is a liar, so what comes out of this is he is a liar, which is something I have known since the 90's. So I guess that makes Don Trump SR a bigger liar, which is Hall of Fame levels of being a liar.
Crooked Manafort is dealing with his own crookedness, so he can not fall on the sword.
That leaves Jared to fall on the sword.
Bannon is popping Gin bottles over the news. Bannons' Gin Blossoms grew 3 sizes today.

At this point, I'm convinced any asshole can be given a high level security clearance.

I'm guessing party nominee/finalists aren't screened for security clearance before elections. Maybe they should be.

Mueller's staff is just moving into its office space, so it's premature to talk about how this case will end up. They are the ones who will be looking at this, along with a lot of other things with the ability to get sworn testimony, to subpoena people and financial statements, and to cut deals for those who will snitch on other people to protect themselves.

Essentially, you have evidence of folks connected to the Russian Government and Russian Intelligence meeting with the son, son in law, and campaign head, offering something, and of course wanting something in return, which is clear was related to Trump reducing or eliminating the sanctions from the Magnitsky Act once in office. That is a conspiracy case. Add to that, you have Trump Jr. changing his story multiple times about what the meeting was about, and about who was there, even failing to mention that Akhmetshin was there when Lil Don was hitting the softballs Hannity was lobbing to him the other night to help him get ahead of the story. And you have Veselnitskaya's story differing from Trump Jr.'s.

The bottom line is that you don't act like this when you are innocent and/or just did something stupid. Also, the best defense Trump Jr. can muster at this point is akin to telling a cop, "well yes officer, I knew the woman was a prostitute because my friend hooked it up for me, but when I brought her up to my bedroom, I didn't actually have sex with her and pay her for it because when she took her clothes off, she had a shit body."

President Trump too certainly knew more about the meeting that he is admitting to as well, as around the time that the meeting was being scheduled, he promised in a speech that he would soon be holding a press conference to drop some bomb shells about the Clintons, but the press conference never materialized (which jives with the meeting not providing what Donny Jr., Manafort, and Kushner expected to walk out of the meeting knowing).

Renet took a 13 hour private tour of the White House last January.

Mueller has hired lawyers experienced in prosecuting money launderers.

I'd guess that money laundering is in some way the glue that holds this together and not the pee tape.

Just speculation though.

You said its going to linger to the midterms. Do you not see how that claim is identically the claims made for nothingburger for the past 15 months, where people say "boy, this one will stick."

No and your comment there alludes to my point. You're arguing significance or impact of this specific story. First, I'm talking about the entire Russia/Trump narrative so that's the first place we are not on the same page. Next, the thing lingering I am talking about is the news cycle of this story (Russia/Trump). We are in agreement this has been in the news cycle a lot for the past six months, right?

Where you seem to be focusing is whether it will matter or not to voters which isn't really something I made a call on. I has a conversation with Fawlty right after that even suggested it could have a negative impact:
Lead said:
It's a win win to dems because if they are right, it's bad for Trump/ GOP. If they are wrong, they stalled the term for a couple months/ years. It's obstructionism from the minority party which is nothing new, especially in this era.

Only lose situation is they get crushed in 2018
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/131784443/

Officially, I have the stance I don't know yet how it will impact mid-terms. That's why it interests me. My comments have been more about how this narrative is being used at minimum for obstruction during his term and with Congress, it's been working.

This meeting will be forgotten about in a couple of months at most. There is nothing illegal here, and the things Trump Jr. is being accused the Dems did also.

Okay, so the meeting goes away specifically in a couple of months? So early 2018? Are we talking the entire russia/trump narrative goes away by that time too? If so, then we are disagreeing between possibly January or November 2018 and like I mentioned, I think you were talking about the specific story while I meant the whole narrative.

-DNC staffers received dirt on Manafort from Ukranian officials by their own accounts. Not only did they just receive...they approached the Ukrainian and asked for. They actually solicited, instead of just accepted.
-Dems hired Fusion GPS for Trump op research. Fusion GPS employed Robert Steele, a former British spy, to conduct the research on Trump.
-Robert Steele, that former British spy, purchased the Steele dossier from active KGB agents.
-The king of Saudi Arabia claimed he funded 20% of Hillary's campaign

Again, you are going into defending things I wasn't even talking about. I didn't make a judgement call on the meeting even. I just said how long the Trump/Russia narrative could last in the news and how it will be interesting to see how it plays into the midterms since Dems are putting a lot of their efforts into this specifically.

So if you think this will damage the GOP in the midterms, imagine what the above would do the Democrats.
I didn't state whether or not it impacts the GOP negatively or positively. That's what I'm interested to find out. Those other stories may be a valid concern but they aren't in the mainstream narrative right now so I don't know if they will have as much sway, especially since Trump won and is serving his term. Clinton lost and isn't running shit.
