I think Trump is hoping? for jail time so that he can further claim to be a victim? That's the only play that makes sense here.

I don’t know if Trump is *hoping* for jail, but I think he’s going to do whatever he wants and will certainly play victim/martyr if they do sentence him to jail. He’ll certainly use that to rile up his base.
