Elections DOGE is formed

Musk is wrong here

They need to cut down the budget considerably, and with whatever is extra - stop taxing us as much proportionally

We'd probably save more than 5k across a year

Whether he is saving 8 million or 8 billion per deal, it is all good. There is a lot of saving going on, which is good.

Yes, wasting all that savings on 5k checks is bad.

Balance budget first, eliminate all debt, then cut taxes or send checks out.
And what’s the damage being done to people who have decades of experience in these institutions? Who are they being replaced with? Not only are they lying about how much we save but we’ve also got to consider that a lot of our government is being replaced with loyalists and not people of merit. This kind of stuff leads to a country’s downfall. might not notice it right away but it won’t be the same country we grew up with in the future. USA certainly has its problems but I have yet to see someone make a good argument as to how all this dismantling is a good thing in the long run.

One way to go about that would be doing exactly what they are doing and identifying that waste, no?

A lot of people, myself included think most government workers stay at home and play video games all day long. Maybe watch some Netflix also. Losing their decades of experience won't hurt us. Also they won't be replaced, they are not needed.

Well you would just be wrong since the majority of federal employees are fully on site. This is why you don't try to craft policy based purely on vibes.

The ones in site should just stay home, I don't think they get much more done .. . :)

Look from my experience in dealing with government workers, they are the most incompetent workers around, and Slow. The few I know talked about how many weeks they must wander around aimlessly, trying to look busy.

5K is 20%, if we got the whole thing, that would be 25K

I'd explain why basing your impressions of over 2 million people on your interactions with maybe a dozen or two is dumb, but I don't think you care about basic stats.

There's no doubt waste and bad workers in the government, probably even more than some private sector companies. But arguing that 50% off them can be cut without impact to citizens is ignorant.

That is fine, but taking that money and sending it in checks instead of reallocating it to what they do deem important and then reducing the overall tax demand?

Lowering taxes is impossible if you actually care about lowering the deficit and paying down debts.

If you actually want to lower the debt and deficit (and inflation) you'd advocate for higher taxes.

Why is it one or the other?

DOGE is the Trump equivalent of Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal imo. A good idea that most folks agree with, but with absolute dogshit execution that should still be open to criticism.
Trump signed off on the withdrawal from Afghanistan with the blessing of the Taliban LOL

You think it’s a good idea and the dems will try to cancel it which makes them look bad. It’s already a terrible idea to begin with to anyone with a functioning brain, shame you don’t have one

I think it's a bad idea to actually do it. I think it's a good idea to float it our there because then the dem's have to be the bad cop.

It's called politics 101. I understand, as a Democrat, you aren't familiar given the only way you guya can win an election is race pandering and/or cheating.

How is eliminating waste and fraud tearing out the constitution? Is there somewhere in the constitution that some Americans work and pay taxes and other Americans are allowed to steal that tax money out waste it?

Where in the constitution does it say I even have to pay taxes?

Because the executive branch can't hide behind "cutting waste and fraud" to take actions expressly delegate to Congress, dummy. That's what's going on here.

So why doesn't Congress do it then? We've been sitting around for years with no progress. Should we just give them another 10 years or will it take bit more?

I'm going to keep posting this until people stop claiming the government wasn't doing anything about waste before Trump and DOGE came along,

Because parties have other priorities and more importantly, the framers made a stupid decision in allowing the filibuster. Since you need super majorities to pass bills (outside of reconciliation, which is limited in how often it can be used), it gives singular senators way more control they would have normally. Similarly, gerrymandered districts and the cap on house seats empowers extremists who cater to their base because margins are so narrow.

The GOP also has politicized the debt ceiling in a way you don't see in other democracies.

Lower down the list is also the US' hate for raising taxes, even though it's impossible to cut into the deficit without doing so. Every other developed democracy has already done that, the US is the exception.

I can imagine a weakness for DOGE is the appearance that it is firing people without good cause.

It reminds me a bit of people looking to reform inner city schools in the past. School reformers would go in, fire teachers and works not needed or not up the job, and the result was anger in these inner city districts. The schools were terrible. Students results were lousy, but many in these areas did not care. They only looked at the issue as a money paying job. An improved school wasn't as important.

For now though appears that most believe in Trump and Musk's government reform work.
