Does Sterling get the automatic rematch?

It used to be Win 2 fights to get another shot, even for big name champs like Matt Hughes with long title reigns and stars like GSP. Those guys had to go thru 2 top 5 contenders to get another shot, as it should be.

Let me see if I have this straight...you're using your O'Malley fanboyism/Aljo hate to call for an approach to every champ losing that hasn't actually been applied in about 15 years?

Weird projection there.

I don't see where I said anything about O'Malley regarding rematches.

You got some feeling you want to talk about?

Don’t think so. He shouldn’t be far off from earning another, but he shouldn’t be given an automatic imo. Like if he goes out there and ties someone like sandhagen in knots again be hard for me to deny him a rematch.

He defended the belt three times. In ordinary circumstances I would be for an immediate rematch. But with Aljo, since two of those fights were incredibly close split decisions, I'm not so sure. He didn't really have much dominance as a champion. Very dull, safe style.

I wouldn't be mad if he got the rematch but I'm not sure the UFC is gonna do that. Plus wasn't he talking about moving up a weight class?
No way Volk would take a fight against a champ who lost

Fuck rematches. I don't care about them anymore. They're freaking boring and scripted best 2/3.

“I would like to think that I’ve earned my right to get an immediate rematch,” he said. “I’m going to remember this night for a very long time. It’s going to fuel me for just bigger and greater things.””

Seems like every time a champ loses they run it back these days
They were touting Sterling as the “ best bw of all time “ and “ dominant champion “
He was talking about moving up- why would volk take that fight now?
He got tko’d- does that factor in?
So does he go to the back of the line or get that rematch?

Who the fuck was touting Sterling as the best bw of all time other than Sterling himself? Neck Tats and Dillashaw in their primes would have beaten him easily. Prime Cruz would have embarrassed the shit out of him.

And lol at the idea of him being "dominant".

He squeaked past Yan, who had dominated him in the first fight before the DQ; beat out of prime, one armed TJ; and squeaked by Cejudo, who had been sitting out for 3 years and had clearly lost a few steps.

So, two of his three title defenses were via close split decisions, and the other was against a guy who couldn't use one arm. Lol. That's probably the least dominant title run I've ever heard of.

No thanks, far too many immediate rematches these days.

He might. OMalley might want it. Sterling offered nothing for Sean. I think Aljo is a safer matchup than Merab, Cory or chito.

Nahh. Got stopped in 2, and it wasn't like his title run is littered with him whooping people for a long period of time. He got the split vs Henry, beat a one armed TJ, and another split vs Yan after not winning it in the most convincing way. I got nothing against the guy, but he's on the bottom half of champs that have deserved rematches

The only reason that makes any sense as to why you'd suddenly call for a approach to title rematches that the UFC hasn't done in 15 years as soon as Sterling loses, as opposed to any other title change, is that you're an O'Malley lover/Aljo hater. No feelings involved, just simple logic. Someone's letting their feelings override rational judgment here but it's you not me.

(Sits back and waits to be hit with the inevitable negative label for disagreeing with someone's opinion presented as fact. Will it be "hater" or "incel"? Will it be something else at least approaching a modicum of creativity? Will I be accused of having a minimum wage job and living in my mom's basement? Find out in the next episode of As Sherdog Turns!)

Yeah that's all in your head.

But thanks for writing me a backstory.
That's cute. I'm flattered.

I have always been against immediate rematches.

Haha, well, I wasn't including people who don't even have a title defense.

If I was though, then good point, Eddie would probably no.1 least dominant. At least most other champs who didn't defend once at least didn't get embarrassed like he did.

Seeing Aljo in the post-fight presser makes me think that he should take 1-2 fights before attempting the rematch. True, iron-clad confidence is taken for granted - it takes time to cultivate. He says he wants it but it doesn't seem to me like he'll be ready in say, 6 months.

Oliveira was talking rematch with Islam since the post-fight presser (I think?) but that win over Dariush was crucial for him and he is in a much better place now. He probably still loses to Islam, but at least now he has proven to himself that he is still elite and can therefore make a legit attempt.
