I was on Sherdog the night of the fight and 2 out of 2000 thought Colby won …. Barely competitive

I imagine that would also be something ppl would discuss. Is it necessary to have a win in another division? Should a MW title win affect how one views the WW GOAT? All those things would be discussed I’m sure :)

If you notice, all the other guys have big, glaring issues with their GOAT candidacy. GSP has probably the least amount of blemishes compared to the rest, but even he has losses against Matt Serra and Hughes.

No, I noticed you say that everyone else has glaring issues.
Someone who wins in what fashion for how long has a leg up on other GOAT candidates? Fedor didn’t have a legit loss for 10 years. Usman was choked out in his 2nd pro fight. Usman just made the P4P #1 recently, which is awesome. Fedor was basically #1 P4P—as a heavyweight, no less—for 7 years. And he sure as hell did not have a weak schedule. Dude fought an absolute ton of fights, and fought good/ranked comp as often as any other GOAT candidate.
So like I said, a handful of title defenses more and we can talk.

There is no set criteria for ‘GOAT’ status, so it can and will always be disputed.

A huge decline / drop-off is a factor people talk about. Silva also had a PED violation (which he explains by saying he needed them to recover from his injury).

Look, I don't care if Usman becomes GOAT.
But I find it ridiculous all these "let me bash other greats, so Usman looks better by comparison".

Fedor was unbeaten for a decade fighting at HW.
Say what you wish, GSP moved up; Silva moved up, Jon is moving up... Adesanya tested himself on a WC above.... Usman is not.

Usman has knee issues. I doubt he will "age gracefully".
Counting on him remaining active and unbeaten for 4 more years is just wishful thinking.

Come on, like I said, that very early loss is just about the least objectionable loss any GOAT candidate has on their record, other than a DQ. He's been undefeated for close to 10 years at this point.

Fedor's career fell apart early, at age 33, getting finished 3x in a row, including getting knocked out by a middleweight. His biggest win outside of pride, Brett Rogers, aged horribly - Brett Rogers went sub 50% after that fight in shitty orgs.

He definitely has been the number 1 ranked fighter in the world longer than GSP ever was. Yeah i agree, he has a path for sure

No one really moved up and did it in impressive fashion except for McGregor or maybe CCC.

Usman is almost at that decade mark.

Exactly!
As theoretical as the GOAT concept is, Khabib's involvement in the conversation (due his brief 13 fight career with only 4 title fights --> 1 being against Al Iaquinta) is even more theoretical if that's possible.

As a fan, the most disappointing aspect was how good he looked in his last fight.
That said, we never really saw him overcome adversity.

Usman is essentially fighting all comers; and fighting 2-3 times in most years vs. Khabib's 1-2 times/yr and general inactivity leave too much to be desired for GOAT status.

Digging his conversion to promoter, though.
That's pretty f--ing cool
 
It's about views not wins. The masses don't care about him.
