And Usman is boring and Morales exciting and you just said casuals don't know anything about the sport, they just tune in, so what does whatever little Usman's name value matter? We're just changing the criteria and argument to fit a different result

At this point im a pretty casual watcher... I would recognize Lopes in a crowd I would not recognize Murphy or Evloev... that means Lopes is more famous... people like seeing fighters they know who they are.

That said, I agree with you that I don't think Lopes deserves a rematch and there are better contenders. I thought they had announced a rematch with Yair... which also didn't make sense.

what don’t you get? Fights that happen across the pond in the Middle East are judged by a different criteria …. Haven’t u noticed the names of the fighters that fight over there? It’s all people from that region who usually have a boring style but the UFC doesn’t give a shit because the rich Arabs are paying for the UFC to host events.

UFC is employing a dual strategy, one of appeasing their Saudi overloads while trying to make money from PPV or keeping streaming providers happy enough to fork over billions.

It’s not rocket science. This card was set up on Paramount to cater to a different market.

Perhaps Paramount saw what the UFC was doing (giving ESPN fights from the Middle East which are more boring while still taking billions from ESPN… essentially double dipping) and Paramount said in their deal that we get to choose the fights not you. IDK

I don’t think the UFC will ever be able to pull the Mexican people away from boxing it’s too entrenched in their history and cultural identity.

I personally feel it’s a fool’s errand but I could be wrongl.

They can’t necessarily pull it over completely because boxing is so entrenched in their history AND there just haven’t been any dominant Mexican fighters. Who was the last one? Cain Velasquez?

I bet if a Mexican knockout artist comes along the numbers would go crazy…. They tried with Moreno and Yair and their stand up is good but they just don’t have the finishing power to be crazy exciting

On the positive side, it gives Volk a chance to defend the belt against a guy he beat pretty recently and seemed to match up well against. Someone with the speed and power of Murphy is more likely to KO an older fighter like Volk. It's doubtful Volk will beat Aldo's record of 7 FW title defenses, but another win against a plodding Lopes will give him 5 defenses.

Bolk is beloved by hardcore fans and Australians. That’s about it. Not a tremendous market and he has vey little pull with the UFC subsequently
