Here’s how I see this situation.
UFC 325 in Sydney title fight between Volk and Lopez for a second times can end in a few ways none of them perfect for Volk.
1 Volk wins again but has wasted his time, money, and body fighting a guy he beat at least 3-2 already.
2 Volk loses in front of his home town leaving everyone feeling bad and probably making him feel like he let is fans and country down.
That’s not even accounting for the very real possibility that Volk may be retiring very soon.
All of this can be avoided for Volk if it was either one of two worthy contenders in Evolev or Murphy because if he wins against them it cements his greatness if he loses he’s passing the touch to new blood.
Craig jones in his video about Dana and his practices made a good point that the UFC has to control the narrative, they have to have the best in the world currently with them.
Remember when Khabib retired undefeated and undisputed? Dana tried so hard to bring him back to fighting because if the number one guy is not champion for them it looks bad since they’re meant to be the best.
I know this is schizo rambling but I’m really confused as to why this was the match to make when there’s two worthy contenders who deserve it.
Volk himself doesn’t even seem like he’s happy about fighting Lopez for a second time.
Idk just something I was thinking about.
