That, and saying the Cambridge, MA police acted "stupidly" when responding to that Harvard professor's house, was so fucking disappointing. I voted for Obama twice because, among other things, I really believed in his message and that he would be a massive benchmark in American history that the country had moved past the ignorance it's racist past. I believe that actual fake news - news that makes up facts rather than just presenting facts that certain people are disappointed by - is created, is peddled my morons like the above, and is a serious threat to democracy. When you have millions of people willing to not only deny facts, but to suspend disbelief and make up their own reality in order to not have to change their positions or think generally, you're going to have a bad time.

No, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC are not "fake news." They're just shitty corporate outlets.

Also, yeah, none of that is fake news. Opining the (exceptionally reasonable) opinion that Trump is the worst president ever or saying that something that a guy you like did was bad is not making up facts. Compare that to, say, Facebook faux "breaking news" articles saying Trump is on tape asking for underage escorts from Jeffrey Epstein, and you should see the clear difference.

The media is captured by corporate interests, there is a very small group of people running it and deciding what plays. A tiny group of the world is deciding what programming, narratives, and slant will be appear on our information sources. Add in the fact that there is declassified information stating that the CIA itself has planted their own people in the media so they can use it as a propaganda tool.

Sprinkle in the removal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, a standard by the FCC to report on BOTH sides of a story...

What you now have is brain washing, and little to no accountability.

If you want to look at how powerful the media is, look no further than how dangerous it is to wear a hat simply stating "Make America Great Again". You are likely to be harassed, or singled out or possibly even assaulted for wearing a red hat.

I totally get the "a select few control the entire media narrative/world programing" stuff. But I also work in TV and considering how much a struggle networks are having trying to figure out how to deal with cord-cutting at this point programming is literally just what gets ratings so we can survive. Political commentary that resembles Monday night football our team vs them gloves off is what viewers have shown they crave and so it's what they get.

If people wanted straight news they'd get it straight, but they mostly don't.

If you want to go back and hit up statements of authority figures and use that, for reference the WHO didn't believe COVID was transferable human to human up until a week before the CCP locked down Wuhan.

Fauci, the CDC, and the WHO didn't believe that masks were effective for any use. People thought shutting down borders WOULDNT help. To take statements made by "experts" at face value without questioning is dumb.

Now who really knows? What we do know is there has been a tremendous amount of misinformation at every stage of this pandemic, and that we are constantly hearing conflicting stories. To move ahead with increased testing of the effectiveness or a potential cure is common sense. It is not deadly to test, and some scientists and their peers are having success. Why wouldn't we want to increase testing it?

Peer reviewed or not, it was not a randomized double-blind study. It also may not be repeatable because of the methodology. That casts the study's validity into doubt and shouldn't be used as evidence of anything, imo. Testing of the drug, sure, no problem. Giving false hope to unproven medical claims is a problem, however.

Fake news is not news you disagree with or news with a political spin or a bias.

FAKE news outright fake and provably false. This term was specifically coined to describe the massive amount of false information being spread on social media by anonymous propaganda groups.

Trump twisted the meaning to point at any news bias, which allows actual fake news to be elevated to equal status with more accountable news sources.

Fox, CNN, MSNBC, Limbaugh, Hannity, NYT, etc. all may have horrible biases but they are accountable.
