I knew Ken was a granddad but that many grandkids? WTF. As for Mike he was probably just bullshitting. Even if he didn't study film on his opponents, which is unlikely, his team probably did that homework for him.that's what Ken said, he didn't say it was for any other reason than he just had too many things going on, that is understandable.
Mike saying that? I'm not sure if that was just arrogance because he was very arrogant in those years. His statement, think it was the arsenio show, that he didn't watch guys or have a plan because things could change on fight night. either way, it's dumb if it's true. Lots of very good fighters were undone by guys having a good night or guys who just had a weird style that threw them off on a bad one.
from his wiki:I knew Ken was a granddad but that many grandkids? WTF.
Unreal. I imagine that will keep him busy enough to not have time to watch or do anything. Now it all makes sense.from his wiki:
Shamrock has been married twice. His first marriage to Tina Ramirez ended in divorce in early 2004.[citation needed] Together they have four children: Ryan Robert (born November 24, 1988), Connor Kenneth (born September 26, 1991), Sean Garret (born June 15, 1993) and one daughter, Fallon Marie (born July 12, 1996). In 2005, Shamrock married a woman named Tonya whom he had known since childhood. He is now the stepfather to her three children. In total, Shamrock has seven children and seventeen grandchildren.[105][106]
it doesn't sound that outrageous when put that way.
i've had mixed feelings about ken but i think he might be a cool dude. imagine your grandfather being a pioneer of MMA. must be cool as hell.
I'm sure there are some competent guys out there, I just get frustrated watching these guys who are supposed to be the second coming of whoever and they aren't.
I never do have enough time to even keep up with some of my favorite boxing youtube channels like Richthefighthistorian who will show mostly forgotten fighters who even though they weren't the best in their times, at least knew their business and usually worked and fought hard. I don't even have time to watch all of that and I don't want to spend time, hour here or there being dissapointed by some guy someone raved about.
I was just watching a Ken Shamrock interview where they asked if he watched the sport anymore and he said he didn't not for any bad reason but he mentioned having kids, 27 grandkids and all kinds of other stuff to do. Then, we have (had) guys like Earnie Shavers who'll say either that they just don't like the modern boxers or that they were never particularly even a fan of the sport but just a boxer to try to make a living. They say Muhammad Ali didn't watch much boxing after he retired either. His old cornerman, Ferdie Pacheco, stated that it had to be hard being the best and then just watching these other guys who'll never even come close. I don't know if that's it or not, Ali, surprisingly, didn't even seem to want to watch his own fights. He never saw Frazier 3 claiming that it was too hellish to watch. Hagler also claimed to never watch the Leonard fight. I thought that was very interesting that fighters aren't always that into the sport. Then we have guys like Tyson who claimed to never watch his future opponents which is just stupid in my opinion, to have no knowledge of what strengths and weakness' you might face, just dumb but some fighters are like that.
Yeah, most of the guys MT/KB subforum have disappeared. It would be a stretch to call myself a regular at this point. In the MT/KB forum, we have sticky threads for news, fight announcements/results, etc etc. Keeps the forum looking much cleaner and open for other types of threads. Now if only there were more than five regulars on there...
I thought he said he had 27, i could be wrong, the podcast is on youtube and it's pretty good. As far Ken the guy, he seems ok, I liked him a lot more after listening to real interviews and he really does seem humble as he admits how he lost and how he once got beat up by some pro wrestlers in a real fight. Personally, I've never gotten along with guy like him, the old "my way or the highway" types of guys. Part of that is because the guys I knew like that really had nothing to offer for allegiance and also, that kind of militarism/patriarchy is all wrong for a native american like me, just like fire and ice. Seems like I always ran into guys like him in the martial arts. The problem is, they'll fuck things up for you and them if they can't have it all their way.from his wiki:

Richthefighthistorian has the best boxing channel that I know of on youtube, by far. However, it won't be for everyone, most of the guys he profiles are guys who never made it far, had bad breaks or what have you. I get the draw, most of US never got the breaks or maybe had the talent to make it. It's the same attraction that made the Rocky series such a hit. But on the other hand, the world rewards the big winners, not the losers and a lot of people won't care about the guys he dedicates these shows to. As for me? Well, I love an Ali more than I ever will a Liston but in many ways, the Liston's are so much more interesting than the Ali's.I'll have to check out that boxing channel. But I hear you 100%, I'm way too busy to be engaged like I used to.
I know Tyson prided himself on being a boxing historian. So I'll take this claims with a grain of salt. I'm also fascinated by fighters who don't seem to enjoy boxing/fighting. I remember James Toney said he preferred football over boxing. I remember King Mo (MMA) saying he hates watching MMA and watches boxing instead. Jose Aldo (MMA) also said he doesn't watch MMA at all.
It's been a very poor year. Boxing revolves around Canelo & Inoue and Canelo isn't fighting who he should be fighting. There isn't much going on outside of them.
It's less about this forum and more about the sport imo.
The sports hasn't necessarily been giving much to talk about this year because the boxers aren't staying busy and when they do they aren't fighting attractive enough fights to get us talking.
Some people haven't been paying much attention I guess.Bro.. last year has had the most high profile fights in boxing in decades

I'd consider you a regular man. There's too few of us to really gatekeep it now hahahaYeah, most of the guys MT/KB subforum have disappeared. It would be a stretch to call myself a regular at this point.
