to be a high ranking military officer, you know 4 star generals, admirals, his own chief of staff and other high ranking officials and be fired by ex Major Peter "Signal Man" Hegseth.

You've earned your way to the highest levels of the United States military services and all the hard work and sacrifices that entails, then a drunken lecherous cheating failed small non-profit executive and Fox news talking head who can't follow basic security practices but got the top job 4 months ago because 47 loved his rhetoric, gets to say "Pack your shit we don't need you any more"

What happens to all these people if Pete comes up with a big enough fuck up that Donny gives up on him and sends him packing like they just did to Mike "Sacrificial Lamb" Waltz?

Do they go "Sorry about that little firing thing, we'd really like you back now to protect America again if you would?"

I wonder if they even bother saying thank you for your service?

It is kinda like letting the intern get to fire the CFO of a fortune 500 company because he is the CEO's nephew...

It was painful to watch him try to explain how collaborative and well thought out his plan is yet having to keep looking down and reading directly from his notes.

I loved the part where he tried to tell us about the two phases, shut the book, then immediately reopened it to make sure he knew the 2 phases.

I don't know if they add value or not but my question is different.

Don't these people have to get promoted into these positions? Doesn't that imply that they earned their stars through years of service?

So, are we firing them just to fire them? Or is their knowledge base no longer relevant?

The latter makes sense, the former doesn't. You don't fire your most accomplished employees just because you have more of them than in the past. You fire them because they're redundant or outdated or something similar.

Someone in the military will have to explain to me how reducing the number of generals from 44 (I think that was the initial number) to 35 (a 20% reduction) benefits the military. I genuinely don't know enough to assess that.

It’s kinda strange to see career military vets be fans of small government. They could give up their benefits and enter the private sector and never even have enlisted had they felt that strongly about it

^^^ This is 100% true.

Everyone hears all the bitching and moaning about how the Navy can't maintain our fleet... there are two main reasons.

(1) Lack of skilled labor force.
(2) Terrible Project Controls practices.

The first one is a matter of us bringing shops back to high schools and apprenticeships. The second is because all these retired Admirals have put in place their companies, solutions, etc. that are so dated and shitty that it's a wasteful joke. They are hired by the companies with the legacy contracts and nothing changes, or they start their own boutique company and abuse the system. There should be a rule against it, due to the abuse.
