Do you tip on takeout orders?

When I get delivery I tell them to keep the change. Every time I always want to call them a filthy animal, but I don't want to be a dick to somebody who knows where I live.

Like someone said...servers in America only make like $2/hour and are basically independent contractors. If they were paid a higher wage, the food would cost more. It all balances out in the end. If the service is acceptable then tipping is the right thing to do in America. You should take a moment to understand the customs of any country that is gracious enough to allow you to visit.

Some waiters in the more high-end restaurants actually have a pretty good career and at times can be premier experts on etiquette...If you don't tip those guys then you are a fucking clown.

personally I prefer the way the rest of the world works it,the server is being paid a proper hourly rate and there is no need for a gratuity.

a story involving a mini-joe silva running pizza-ops along with gary busey lunging at d-level tank abbotts with a shoe?

10/10

Haha thanks man.

Lol, really?

You think for a second a server would quit and go work the drive thru at McDonald's?

Not sure how u got that from what I said?

what I was saying was MCD employees make a higher hour wage than a restaurant server therefor tipping at MCDs is not customary.

It's not be able just pay a tab straight up...I liked it when I lived in Oz. In japan tipping can be seen as a "F-you, you need to his money because you kinda suck".

However, it can lead to complacence. I'll occasionally sneak a beer when the wife sends me to Wholefoods and they are baked out of their gords.

Most of the time, people working for tips tend to hustle a bit more.

lol it's not too terrible but compared to the proper pizza shop I usually go to it's pretty terrible.

Don't underestimate the UK man...we also have like 4 taco bells scattered 'round the whole country.

Lol...consider yourself lucky. Late night Taco Bell runs will ruin your night! :icon_lol:

As someone that has done both jobs, driving was A LOT more work. I think they should be tipped more, honestly.

First reason: well, let's say for a second that they did the same amount of work (they don't). People are so brainwashed to think that waiters struggle that almost EVERYONE tips them, whereas drivers rarely ever get tipped no matter what (and it's usually a few dollars at most when they do).

I think not tipping drivers comes from a few false assumptions:

1. The delivery/gas fee, if there is one, goes to the drivers. Not always. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Still doesn't cover wear and tear.

2. Drivers are paid minimum wage. FALSE! Again, some are, some aren't. Some drivers get paid just a little more than waiters per hour.

3. Waiters serve, get finished plates out of the way, get drinks, have to fix incorrect orders, etc., while drivers only drive. Once again, WRONG! Most drivers also take orders, clean, make the pizzas, deliver them, have to drive back to your house to fix orders and miss more deliveries, etc.

Waiters get to sit inside nice, warm buildings, while drivers have to weather rain, ice, sleet, traffic, muggers, etc. Waiters also know where people are seated. Drivers sometimes have to go door-to-door to find the right house, as many aren't numbered, or the numbers are out of order (I once saw 2026 next to 87, and 96 followed by 79 next to 87). And when they do find the right house? People fall asleep or take showers after they order all the time.

If the food is bad, people usually don't blame it on the waiters, they blame it on the cooks. If you have a delivery run that took an hour, and come back to find another six deliveries waiting for you? You'll get blamed and stiffed when one or two of them end up getting cold because you can only drive to both ends of your range so fast.

There are so many other reasons why, but having done both, I'd say that drivers seem to do more work, but get appreciated less.

Also, if drivers get into an accident, pretty sure insurance won't cover it.

Nice. Another tipping thread that will reach 100 pages as usual...

No. Fuck tipping.

No. Fuck tipping.

And fuck giving you quality service. Not that I'd ever spit on the food or anything, but we always knew who the shitty customers were, and they always waited the longest, got cold food, didn't get refills, had a service charge attached, and was sometimes given incorrectly-cooked food without any fixing.

I tip everyone, takeout included.

At the mexican restaurant by my house, they know me. The other day when I went in, he gave me free nachos. They always hook me up.

Tip, cause why not.

it depends, at the local Italian restaurant they give extra bread and amazing ranch for dipping and don't charge extra ill tip a few bucks. At a chain restaurant nope.

If I am picking up an order, like Chinese..no I am not tipping. You are not providing a service beyond cooking the food which is why I am paying you for the food.

If I get delivery, aka Pizza...I will give the pizza guy/gal a few bucks.

If I am at a place where the food is being made for me, like a sub shop. I will maybe top maximum a dollar just to be nice.

At a restaurant a good server should get 15-20%. No more then 20% unless something unrealistically amazing happened or you are Richie Rich. If they are mediocre 10-15%, if they are bad they should be grateful to get anything.

Baggage handlers for places like cruise ships I will give a few bucks unless I don't have any cash on me then they are SOL.

Vallet I will give like 2 bucks unless I don't have any cash on me then they are SOL.

If there was a local place I regularly went to, or somewhere super friendly or a place that hooked me up, I would tip extra. Given there's no place like that around me and generally chains have mediocre food and service so you ain't getting any extra money for that.

I would next like to complain about the people who believe they should be given $15 an hour to work at Mcds, where's that thread? :)

I rarely ever tip for delivery either, depends on if I like the guy or not and really they aren't providing a great deal of service so why should you?

Takeout, as in you place an order and go and pick it up yourself? No, I don't tip for that. I'll tip a delivery driver/waiter though.

That'd be like tipping the cashier/person running the drive through window at McDonalds.

See my post above. I've done both jobs, and, from my experience, drivers do MORE work and get LESS tips.

Makes sense to tip if you're a regular, but I'm not down for tipping for tipping's sake. People will start to expect tips and base their service on whether they think you will tip well or not, like in Vegas. Asian man can't get no love by some servers there. lol

I wish we could adopt a no tipping culture like in Korea or Japan and just raise wages for workers in the service industries. I usually get excellent service there all the time.
