Do you have a "move over" law in your state?

I doubt it. One cop dies, and they have to memorialize him, and pass a law. That's how it happened in NY. Please don't act like the police put their lives on the line every day, and are heros. They are vultures who spend most of their time nickel and diming the common man.

fuckin agreed.

i live in california, and everyone gets scared of cops on the road.even if everyone is driving perfectly, they will pull someone over and give out a ticket. when i was 12, i got a $180 ticket for sitting on my bike on my driveway without a helmet.

cops have randomly hit me up for way more money than gangbangers and criminals ever have.

You have to move over and slow down in my province.

As for the traps, they do them here as well. Cops will have a decoy vehicle pulled over, and more cops waiting down the road to nab anyone that fails to slow down and move over. I don't see how that's bullshit at all. That's like saying that red lights should only be observed if there is traffic coming on the green. Who cares if the cop on the side of the road is actually issuing a ticket, or if he's there as a decoy to catch morons who can't follow simple rules.

because we are paying taxes to hire guys to trick people into paying fines.

a better analogy is that they randomly put a bunch of red lights to try to catch more people running them, not giving a fuck about ruining the flow of traffic

Yeah, i personally don't understand why their emergency is more important than my time but it's the law i guess.

To be honest I have never heard of this law, and I have often worked in the past as a driver. I just looked it up, and it is indeed a law where I live, although you don't have to slow down to an extreme degree.

I believe in Delaware there is no law in place, seems awfully stupid and the person would have to be an asshole to not move over, but legally the person wouldnt have too. We do have the good samaratin law though, where if someone tries to save your life you cant sue though if they hurt you... I.E. someone breaks your ribs giving you CPR, in some states you could legally sue the person who saved your life, another asshole move just like not moving over.

Here in NC it's move over or slow down.

The spirit of the law is great, it's dangerous being out on the highways like cops are, but as per usual, they're going to use it as a money printing press, like most traffic laws.

im pretty sure we have this law where i live. ive never seen it abused before. If it is being abused, we certainly shouldn't do away with the law. most cops are good people just doing their job and a lot of them are great people who put themselves on the line to protect the public. we just need some fucking checks and balances with our law enforcement.

There needs to be like, one cop narc in every department, just rattin motha fuckas out of little shit to keep them in line.

Do it anyway. Don't want to risk sideswiping a cop or getting too close and have their whole department pissed at you. Or kill someone.

They're not tricking anybody. It's a law. Abide by it. Then there won't be a problem.

46.2-921.1. Drivers to yield right-of-way or reduce speed when approaching stationary emergency vehicles on highways; penalties.

A. The driver of any motor vehicle, upon approaching a stationary vehicle that is displaying a flashing, blinking, or alternating blue, red, or amber light or lights as provided in

I think in Texas it is move over or slow down by 20 MPH which is okay with me, as it only applies to vehicles with emergency lights on. Why wouldn't I move over anyway?

Wow, just read the article. The author must be a Sherdog poster because his title absolutely misrepresents what he says in the article. The article seems to indicate that if you read it, you will see how the law is being abused. When I read the article, all I see is a mention of how it could be abused. Oh, a quote from a cop that supports the law. Plus, the author is a lawyer trying to drum up business.

Couldn't agree more. They signed up for the job. They want the badge, authority and a gun, then they take on the risks associated with the job, period. Laws like this are taken advantage of at best, and cause safety to motorists at worst. Similar to red light cameras where it's supposed to be about safety, but increases rear-end accidents and is an obvious revenue generator.

Ridiculous. No one signed up to get run over in traffic while doing their job.

Is normal.

I don't have a problem with the law. I've never been in a situation where I couldn't get into the next lane, and I've never heard of anyone where I live get ticketed for it. I guess it sucks if you've been ticketed for it wrongfully, But asshole cops are gonna asshole

yes. and its not a bad law.

i was on a traffic stop at 2am about 6 years ago and had the car stopped well onto the right shoulder and i had a car try to hit me at 75mph. i just happened to look back as it barely missed my car and nearly hit me. i had to jump up against the vehicle i had stopped. i let that car go and pursued the one who tried to hit me.

turns out it was a drunk driver who was 3xs the legal limit and he admitted he tried hitting me. and in many other situations the pretty police lights are like flames to moths. and those saying f law enforcement, same goes for construction crews. they deserve space as well.

Good question, I live in PA.

I generally try to do that for any vehicle on the shoulder if possible. But yeah it would suck to get pulled over for that because there was heavy traffic next to you and you couldn't safely move over.

if you cant move over its a slow down, much in the same way people give that courtesy to people on the side of the road changing a tire. lets see your statistics where its causing issues for motorists. if you cant change lanes, turn in your license.

you wouldnt get ticketed for that. look at the law. if you cant move over, its a slow down law.

.

Ours is just common sense and would be hard to use to make money unless you were being an ass in the first place.

this is a very hard concept for some people to grasp.

I also live in Florida. I don't think it's a bad idea, and I've never seen anyone get pulled over for it yet.
