Do you give extra $ to a homeless man with a clever sign?

I only see them when I'm driving out of stores and there's traffic. I have a jeep with manual windows so I'm not leaning over, winding that thing down in the winter and throwing my cigarette change at whoever is over there. I'm usually gone so fast I don't know what the sign says.

They took the time to make the sign. The least you should do read it.

It’s been years since I’ve come across a homeless person with a sign. They’re usually playing some kind of instrument tho, and I put some money in the case sitting next to them. So long as the homeless person isn’t aggressive I’ll give them some money.

If they have the energy to put together a funny sign, they haven't been homeless long enough. I don't give panhandlers money anyway. Nobody stays homeless for very long that doesn't want to be homeless.

Ok but like a previous poster pointed out, making people laugh is considered a viable trade. If the sign makes you laugh, should not the homeless man be paid for his "wares"?

He should focus that energy on filling out job applications, or be funny in an interview so he can charm his way into gainful employment. I guess under the right circumstances you may have a point. If I were interviewing a homeless person with a funny sign for a job, he would get the job over a homeless person with no sense of humor.

I've never given a homeless person money. I expect that streak to continue unless I see a real compelling reason otherwise. It would have to be a pretty special case though.

I give homeless people food. The majority of them are homeless because of how incredibely irresponsible they are. Plus i'm cheap like that.

I dont give money to homeless but I once saw a sign that said "I just want a buck for a beer" lol I would have given it to that dude because if any human being would come to me saying "hey man Im having a hard time would you give me a dollar just to buy a beer and feel better" sure I would give it to that person... so it's the same thing

I can not wrap my mind how they get there in the first place. I'm one of the laziest people there is and have several addictions yet I own my home and have a job. How do these folks lose at life in the first place?

If your home was foreclosed + bad credit means no rent possibly.

Then throw in a divorce, child support and maybe a healthcare problem...(gall bladder surgery with insurance ran my wife 3k for example). The vast majority of people don't become homeless due to addiction, they become addicts after losing everything

I stopped giving money to homeless people. Or at least I try. I donate towards homeless shelters, churches, food banks and the like.
