Movies Do You Find Yourself Watching Movies Less and Less?

Yes. Not due to quality, or anything though. Just habits. Don't know what caused it, but when I had Netflix, I got to a point where I would watch more trailers than actual shows or movies. It carries over to Youtube shit, where I'd rather just browse and browse and watch random whatever, then settle in for a movie or show.

It's like some weird drug.

Old Movie Crew
If you read the movie news, Skydance and Paramount recently merged, with Skydance retaining executive privilege. Some people may not realize the extent of Paramount's investments and film catalog. Paramount is one of the oldest studios. Over the years, they've acquired stakes in various companies. Paramount has a stake in Miramax, which produced and distributed Tarantino films. Skydance is currently expressing intrigue in acquiring/merging with Warner Brothers.

It will be interesting to see how this shift will influence the quality of films. I do think that the best actors-actresses/writers/directors/producers experience struggle. I also speculate that the newer talent doesn't watch old movies.

I think in the near future, we are going to see more practical effects and AI research and development (inspired from old films). At some point in time, we will see a full-feature, budgeted, AI-assisted/generated movie. If it makes a lot of money, forget about it.

I think there is just more things to entertain yourself, like video games, music or whatever. Just more choices to keep yourself entertained.

I love indie horror movies, so I watch a lot of those. But otherwise - I mostly rewatch the greats

About the same... Looks like nothing to write home about until Dooms Day.

Yes. Between superhero fatigue and constant remakes/sequels of classics, I rarely watch movies anymore. Going to the theatre was not that long ago one of my favorite hobbies. Top Gun 2 was the last movie I left really impressed (and to my point was a sequel). Thought of going to see Smashing Machine but I hear it is not that good. Probably wait for streaming.

The last thing I watched and was really impressed with was Severance. Pretty sure it is based off a book though.

Yeah I used to watch tons of movies, but nowadays it's very rare and when I do it'll be older movies. I've been disconnected from the current day movie scene for many years.

I think my attention span is boliterated. I can't sit down and watch a movie anymore because I'll get distracted

I still love video games for example and play them all the time, but I can no longer play lengthy RPG's (Which I used to love) for this same reason. I've had Baldur's Gate 3 installed for like a year but only played like 7 hours and everytime I look at my games all the others look more appealing because they're less of a time investment/need less attention. Back when I was younger I completed Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 multiple times and had a blast. Now they'd feel like a slog

Exactly the same here. The thought of an open world RPG does nothing for me.

There was a good YT video out there that had all of the good, linear under 20 hour games to play for people that feel the same. Been playing the Sam Lake titles more because of it (Control and Alan Wake 2).

I was watching a movie as a I fell asleep last night

Nowhere.... 1997

It struck me how crazy beautiful it was from an artistic perspective.

Arguably too much so as it was a monumental journey away from the "realism" of modern film. Saturated colors, backgrounds clearly trying to make a statement, jarring use of color, (and editing and sound) rooms with solid color walls and ceilings like a bar coffee shop type place with black walls and white graffiti. ... art

Rare exceptions aside, the current film scene is fucking BORING.

It is too safe. No risk. No controversy or if there is it is within this super annoying pre approved narrative type of spectrum.

Just my $0.02 but I truly believe we are an a very forgettable era of both film and music.
Tell me a 2020s defining piece of art that will be remembered in 40 years the way literally all of society recognizes the Karate Kid, Mike Tyson, Guns n Roses....

Art is dead.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s was a fucking blessing which I am truly thankful for.

I saw Netflix reported poor earnings last night. Their stock is down today. It had me thinking, either Netflix's movies are not well thought of anymore, or Elon Musk's call to cancel Netflix accounts worked.

I've been watching more but not new stuff. Going back and watching foreign films from the 60's. Working my way through Godard, Fellini, Melville, etc.
This one reminded me a bit of Reservoir dogs

Well when Hollywood tells us to fakkk right off, with sequals like Joker and Galdiator 2 what can you do?
Turned med off for a few years I think.

Yes but that's because I've been playing games more. It's way to hard to watch anything in my house with my kids running around playing with each other. With games I can put headphones on while they go wild. I've honestly thought about getting some headphones for my media player which I think can work. Then I would watch movies more.

yeah man, almost none of the hollywood movies interests me. hasn't really for the last 15 years. i get suckered into some of the marvel stuff but i go in with zero expectations.

the last true great movie i saw in theaters was no country for old men. i don't really bother with any new stuff either, too stuck in my old ways and i mainly rewatch the good stuff. these cans only know how to make recycled trash that appeals to mainstream audiences and china, so you end up with pg 13 movies with lame scripts.

I manage a cinema and almost have to watch everything because I'm going to get asked daily anyways. The upside is I can just come in after hours and watch whevener I want.

These days it's big blockbusters or nothing. It's been a solid nose dive since August and there's no hope until late November.

Everyone says they don't want low effort sequels but that's the only thing keeping the doors open. We're all just surviving until the next Wicked and Avatar drop.

And it's not even close. Here's an example. Last night, 9:00 hour, maybe 50 tickets sold. The same Tuesday of Wicked I'll have at least 300 in that same hour.

Yes since quality seems to be down though once in a while i stumble on good one
