Do you feel bad for Henry Cejudo?

I thought he won but not even a little bit. He's the one who chose to sit on the sidelines for three years. He seemed noticeably slower tonight. The lighter guys generally age faster because the rely more on speed vs. strength. He accounted himself well tonight considering his age and a three year playoff but no, I don't feel bad for him. The fight was close and neither man could scream about the decision going against him. Aljo has been fighting. Henry has been sitting at home bitching and moaning. It is what it is.

This is true and I'm a big CCC supporter. I still don't blame him for sitting out. Hes been competing since 11 and won everything, he was burnt out. He still did pretty damn well after 3 yrs chilling.

He looked pretty devastated, as all athletes would when they put in their heart and soul into something and fall short.

Do you feel bad for Henry?

Slightly, in the same way I feel bad for anyone who tries really hard to do something and comes up short. But took three years off. That was his choice and this was a predictable consequence.

Agree. He was missing the extra little fiz he showed in Round 2 vs Marlon and from the get go against TJ. He did fine but it looked too much like a spar.

A little.

He really wasn't there for just a paycheck.

He worked extremely hard.

Amazing job after a three year lay off against a fighter in the wrong division.

Cejudo did very well considering his age, that he hadn't fought in 3 years and that he's much smaller than Sterling.

No..

I don’t think he beat DJ. But he got the decision.. Moving on. He gets a totally depleted arrogant defence in Dillishaw. Gets a free TS at 135 fighting for a vacant title. Against a guy that pretty much fell off a cliff starting with that fight. Then he cherry picks 4 years out Cruz.

Pulled the retirement thinking he’d be begged to stay. Nobody gave a flying fuck. And proceeded to call out everybody and their dog including boxers, and women.. And of course a free TS at FW. All while crying about money.

All while bashing Dana and the UFC. Him winning that fight woud have been the worst possible outcome for the BW division. He would have held the belt hostage, and cherry picked defences. All while demanding more money and a free TS at FW.

No. Every bad thing that has happened was self inflicted. And he got wins and opportunities he did NOT deserve.

And ever since announcing his return he’s been disrespectful to many fighters.

I had faith in Aljo beating him. And I’m glad Aljo took care of business.

So mods shouldn't have opinions, post often, or disagree with people? Hmmm. Noted. Maybe mods should be robots or anonymous. You seem upset since my views don't agree with you. Not sure why that's unbecoming of a mod.
In time you will be replaced with AI. Enjoy it while you can.

He was the smaller guy and he was definitely going after it more. Nothing to be ashamed of in his performance, but emotionally he probably had all his eggs in one basket leading up to this.

A little bit. He gets a lot of shit on here but he was a good champ. Probably helped delay Dana from axxing the 125 lb division entirely. Retires because he didn't think the money was good but got ZERO love from the """journalists""" or sherdog and instead gets clowned for it.

He won a split decision, put the division on hold for 2 years so he could beat a deflated Dillashaw and then ran to 135 to beat moraes. Fittingly, he ignored Aljo back then so he could fight Dominick Cruz who hadn't fought in nearly 4 years and retired after winning expecting the ufc to cave to his demands.
How was he a good champ?

Some little piece of me feels empathy for every guy that loses, esp title matches. That increases when a champ loses the strap, and again if a former-champ loses a rematch trying to get it back. Wouldn't say I feel bad for them, but I understand the gravity.

Even for Henry, and I think he's been a really big douche in a really tiny package. Douche- concentrate, if you will... I have some empathy for the loss and what that means.

I think Henry would have to destroy Sterling to win a decision. It’s obvious the UFC wants to set up Sean O’ Malley vs Aljo to appeal to Millenials and Gen Z, just look how Joe and DC where on Sterling’s nuts during commentary, they totally minimized Cejudo’s good work and over hyped Sterling’s offense.

And the promotional material painted Cejudo like he was God's gift to mma. They wanted Cejudo to win because he'll happily do press conferences and put on a show. And he would have put on an entertaining enough fight with O'Malley that it wouldn't have hurt his stock with his fan base.

No, he looked very good considering he came off such a long layoff. He shouldn’t have wasted so many years of his prime.

This. He had not fought in 3 years and did as well as could be expected. The ironic part is if he had not stepped down when he did, he would have fought Aljo in early or late 2021 and likely would have won, and had him in his rear view mirror.

I’d like to thank Hendry for coming back acting like he was the champ already only to lose and quit.
Was funny hearing Hendry talk like it was a robbery and asking Joe hoping he’d confirm.
