Oh they were nice enough I guess.
My wife and daughter both almost died when my wife gave birth and because my insurance sucked, they had to be in different hospitals that were about 60 miles apart. I was driving back and forth barely sleeping, very stressed. One day I said, shit, I need to go home and sleep for a few hours. I just was wiped out. When I got home, their minister or whatever mormons call them was waiting for me in my driveway, just weird timing. I barely knew the guy and he gets out of his car and he has a gift for my wife, which I thought was pretty nice. Then I realized he was waiting for me to invite him in and talk to him and I was just so tired that I couldn't do it. I told him so too, I said look, I'm too tired to make an excuse. I need to go in and go to bed and I could tell he was sort of put off by it but he handled it OK. My wife was pissed about it.
At the worst times, I swear they'd show up. Missionaries would come by every month or so and they were always trying to get money. My wife knows me well enough though that I never had to deal with it. I just don't have the patience. They're total strangers and I don't want to pretend to like them while they solicit us for money.
Her sister is way into and has them over for dinner and shit when they come up.
Weird as it may sound, especially since I live half a block from the main Mormon temple here in SLC, I have very rarely been approached by missionaries. When I have been, I was cool with it, because I actually enjoy religious discussions (and also because a lot of times the missionaries tend to be pretty cute females.
They never get too pushy with me. I think it's because I've studied enough that I'm throwing shit out there that they don't know how to deal with so they just kind of leave.
