Do you believe in man-made climate change?

This topic is only controversial because low IQ dimwits have been convinced it's not real by the fossil fuels industry.

Hey this is a real problem, but let's ignore it because the stupid people don't believe it. Makes sense.

The people 'pushing it' are climate scientists. I'm guessing you don't listen to any climate scientists. Many people do, including some rich and powerful people. Because you do listen to those people, you hear it from them.

And, I've pointed this out 101 times in these threads, none of you guys even understand the real solutions, as most of them would involve making middle and lower class people's lives better. It's just that you've all been convinced to go against your own interests, again because you listen to rich and powerful people rather than scientists.

Just because you don't understand the problem, doesn't mean one doesn't exist. The damage to the economy caused by 2 to 3 degrees of warning would be an order of magnitude worse than the damage* to the economy caused by attempting to address the problem.

*Solving the problem doesn't actually need to damage the economy. Not addressing the problem 100% will absolutely wreck the economy, and that's not even getting to the cost in human lives and ecosystem destruction.

Simmer down, paul. You're not winning anyone over and you're scaring the kids.

I agree, but CO2 sequestration, especially forced air, is not remotely feasible in terms of making a significant impact. It requires a massive amount of energy.

Ya, it's going to take an enormous multi facetted world wide effort with sequestration being a small part of the solution. And you're right, renewables will need to become more reliable/sustainable to power sequestration, and sequestration will need to become more energy efficient. Hopefully we'll get there.

People in power are funding the climate research, and it just so happens that scientific outcomes are influenced by funding sources…

Funding bias, also known as sponsorship bias, funding outcome bias, funding publication bias, and funding effect, refers to the tendency of a scientific study to support the interests of the study's financial sponsor. This phenomenon is recognized sufficiently that researchers undertake studies to examine bias in past published studies.”
Yea big oil really wants to push that climate agenda I'm sure.

Some of you guys need to watch Life On Our Planet. It is a Netflix series with God (morgan Freeman narrating). The fragile but also amazing ability to bounce back is this planets history for billions of years. Several mass extinctions--Volcanic eruptions, Meteors, continental drift, lack of oxygen in the oceans, and yes climate change was a factor in most of them. Over our history the planet will cool and heat up to the point of extinctions. Do I believe we could help that along? It is possible but not at the levels some would make us think. We have had periods of intense pollution during the industrial revolution that was worse than now.

If you wanna reduce carbon release you need to go after China and India etc. and not cuck your own population who doesn't even pollute nearly as much.

I agree with you that motivating the largest polluters to curb their excess is the way. I think you need to reduce one's own as well without impacting economic development. The whole green industry where people just try to get rich off selling more expensive stuff off of people's conscious is counter productive.

Sure, but the attention (and funding) climate change gets compared to other more tangible problems is insane.

Agreed, but I don't think one has to address man made climate change or homelessness, for example. I think one can do both. I'm more keen on economic incentives towards better behaviour rather than taxation, with outright bans on the worst behaviour.

I think also that the economic impact of climate change is vastly more than any spend to combat it. It's worth looking at the total cost over time when calculating the relative value.

Do I believe we could help that along? It is possible but not at the levels some would make us think.

What are you basing this on? Your background in physics and solid understanding of the topic? Or you just feel like it might be true, because, reasons?

And, you may want to look into Morgan Freeman's thoughts on the subject, given that you think he's god.

Damn! WAPO must be doing some late night drunk publishing.

Careful watching the follow up spin, boys, lest you whirl out and hit your head..

We’re all going to die.. soon.

My distrust of the science is that its potentially greatly underestimating the threat in order to stick to "targets" that the current neoliberal status quo is happy with.

The potential for feedback loops with things like the release of methane from permafrost could I suspect lead to far worse warming than most predictions.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure even drastic action is too late now to avoid large scale human suffering in the coming years and decades.

Most people that deny climate change and claim it’s just natural fluctuations ignore the science that CO2 and methane are greenhouse gases which trap heat into the Atmosphere. They cannot explain away that one thing.

They also claim that it’s a scam for money for green energy, not realizing that the fossil fuel industry rakes in obscene amounts of money and has a vested interest in protecting their industry lol. People are dumb as shit

Yep. When large parts of the population can’t be fed, can’t live in certain areas

I don’t know, but after the whole Covid debacle, I simply don’t believe in the authorities and “the science”.

What a stupid ass excuse to just start dismissing anything that goes against your beliefs. "Hmm I think COVID was bs, now I don't trust any science".

You think it’s stupid to doubt the people that lied to you?
