I think fate and destiny are real.

There are things you don't have control over such as a car broadsiding you out of the blue, that's fate. There are things that will happen because they have to, like someone who wants to be a parent generally are destined to be a parent.

However, people confuse these terms. Fate is something you cannot control, so that's pretty clear, IMO. Destiny is more tricky because I think it can change. If you're a drug addict, you're destined to die young, but you could get sober and that would change. If think destiny only works if everything stays the same going forward, fate happens regardless of what you do. You have agency in destiny but not in fate.

This answer is on the best track. Yes, there are certain things....fate if you want....that you cannot change. Things happen in the universe that you cannot control and are just fate. But I don't believe there is no free will. People can make decisions and change a situation for better or for worse. I don't believe it is just "fate" if you go and punch someone in the face and go to jail. That was a choice.

I believe that what we often call fate or destiny is deeply connected to our unconscious desires. Our minds, even when we aren’t fully aware of it, seem to try and push us in the direction of what we truly want, even if what we want isn't a fully formed idea in our conscious mind. It's not that life hands us a predetermined path, but rather that our inner motivations guide us toward certain opportunities or experiences we might not notice otherwise.

When we look back at the events in our lives, especially those that seem unlikely or serendipitous, it’s easy to think fate was at work. But I think this feeling comes from the fact that we’re tuned into our own goals, which leads us to assign meaning to these events. We notice the things that align with our desires and values, while others, with completely different focuses, might not give them a second thought.

In a way, we construct our sense of destiny after the fact. We analyze events in hindsight, and they seem like pieces of a bigger plan, but in reality, it’s more likely that our unconscious mind led us to choose this path all along. What feels like fate may simply be our deep, often hidden desires shaping the direction we go.

Ultimately, I believe destiny isn’t something that happens to us, it’s something we unknowingly create as we move through life. We are essentially guided by the inner forces that push us toward what we truly seek. Or depression, anxiety, regret, and self-loathing if you don't listen.

Personally, I like to trick myself into seeing it all as fate, because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside cuz some magical old head inni di universe be lookin' oot fi me an' him always got mi back. I try not to think too much deeper cuz it's mad difficult broski.

Ting crazy tho fam fi real 💯

As contradictory as it may seem, I believe in both fate/destiny AND free will.

My belief in both can be sort of summarized into one word: "karma".

I reap what I sow.

Yes, all three exist.

Fate has nothing to do with free will. Destiny does. Fate by definition are things that happen that are out of your control, while destiny can be changed with free will, making different decisions to stray from that path and making a new destiny. I always look at destiny as "If you keep doing what you are doing now, this is what's going to happen". Now, the tricky thing with destiny is most of the time we don't know what it is until getting off that path becomes very difficult.

Sauce?

Free will partially exists but not fully. We are like a man in a river with a strong current. We can choose to clinge to a rock, swim in any direction, dive or tread water, but the river has decreed our fated path.
