Do you actually believe this was unintentional?

Gane used a Muay Thai technique to defend himself. He has a Muay Thai defensive style, framing out/long guarding with boxing gloves is a common tactic and clenching your fist all the time is one quick way to burn out and fatigue your shoulders.

Not intentional, could be remedy with a better glove design or they could neuter/dilute the sport more with more stupid rules that are impossible to enforce.
Somebody who understands what they're watching is a rarity around here.

Cmon, do you actually believe this was unintentional?

It's harder to stay balanced when your arm is extended out while kicking. Gane knew what he was doing, same thing Jon does. He just didn't expect it would be bad enough for the fight to be stopped.

Yeah Gane was at best being reckless, that's why it's annoying Aspinall seems to have gotten all of the grief after this shitshow, Gane caused it.

I dont know but my ignore-list grow every day because people blame tom here. I dont like echochambers but I just cant reach those guys.

Ufc is doing nothing about this old problem. I guess they want more ko's. Try pride-gloves. Just once.

Sure I do! But I just bought a bridge on Craigslist from a Nigerian prince, so...

Yes, illegal technique.
Well, no but it's in a grey area. In this gif Cyrils fingers are pointed upwards. They landed in Tom's eyes. But as has been explained several times over what Gane was doing was using a technique that's taught in Muay Thai when throwing kicks. A kick you can clearly see in the gif. In short, it was likely an accident and not blatant. You're giving Gane way too much credit to throw a kick and intentionally foul at the same time.

Per the Unified Rules

It’s legal to:

  • Use an open hand for framing or parrying, if your fingers are pointed upward (not toward the opponent’s eyes).

Accidental…

BUT, he was asked to stop extending his fingers like that prior to the fight-ending foul, so there is no reason for him to have his fingers extended like that…

If Gane was DQed, I doubt anyone would have been able to argue it…

But until they get better gloves, do you not the think should be stopped unless the fighter can ensure he won't be poking people in their eyes?

But this isn't Muay Thai where your fingers are covered. If Gane can't figure out how to use a technique without fouling he should stop using it.

I mean, Gane is definitely a dumbass for risking it. But I don't think that's what he was trying to do in this sequence. I'm sure there are other sequences you can find where he's intentionally being a dirty fighter. I just disagree it's this one.

Sure I can see your point, but even if he didn't mean to do it, if he can't stop fouling he needs to stop trying it.

It's like if a fighter keeps going for low kicks and repeatedly kicks the opponent in the groin, and his excuse is "well my training partner was taller". It's a dumb excuse and reason enough to DQ someone.

The damage is already done now. He's probably doing a lot of self-reflecting on the situation. Or at least he should be.

anyone who thinks it was actually intentional is a low iq potato brain
