Crime Do these happen in your city?

Approximately 21,000 smash n grabs and commercial burglaries in California in 2024 with intent to steal merchandise valued over $950 according to the California Department of Justice crime, reports and analyses reflecting reported incidents to law enforcement...

That’s a lot, even for a state as big as California. I've been here my whole life, this type of crime is constantly occurring in the bay area where I'm at. As for LA I feel safe saying it's a bigger problem.
cali aint the state for me, blasting a mofo if he break into my store

These happen a lot here in LA

They steal someone's car, then they use it to ram and break into a store where they smash and grab everything they can

People here have accepted it as a fact of life and something you just have to live with. Even if they are caught, they are out the next day to do it again.

Steal car, break into store, loot

Repeat.

Steal car, break into store, loot

Repeat.

I'm sure Gavin will be right on top of this right away.

At what point does California need federal protection in LA?

How bad does it need to get?

I think it happens in every city that people use stolen cars to commit crimes in rather than their own. Move out of the city.

- It's doenst happens here. They do steal cars to commit crimes. But the type the ts describes, only hapened two times in almost 20 years as far as a remember. Also if someone does that here, the cops wil put a bullet or more on them.

Live in Houston and you dont hear about this type of thing. Cali seems particularly bad about this type of crime. All the youtube videos are usually there.

- Days ago a guy saw a motorcicle with the keys in, when he sit on the bike, the guys that work delivery, layed a smackdown on him, and they didnt even knew who the biker, that was gona lose his motorcicle was.. Here you dont mess with bikers that do delivery.

21,000 “smash and grabs” involving stolen vehicles driven through a store front?

People stole 57 cars a day, every day in 2024 and drove them through the front of a business and then robbed the place?

LA crime rates are public record, you tell us what you think the threshold should be to deploy the national guard.

New California laws effective in 2025 target organized retail theft by allowing the aggregation of stolen property values to meet felony thresholds and enabling arrests based on probable cause, not just direct observation. Other key measures include the creation of new penalties for possessing stolen goods intended for resale, stricter rules for auto break-ins, and the authority for retailers to obtain restraining orders against repeat offenders.
Aggregated Theft and Felony Thresholds
Assembly Bill 2943 (AB 2943)
permits prosecutors to combine the value of stolen property from multiple victims or counties to meet the $950 felony grand theft threshold.
Senate Bill 905 (SB 905)
allows for the aggregation of stolen property values from different car break-ins over a period to charge individuals with a single crime for resale purposes.
Increased Enforcement and Arrests
Expanded Arrest Authority:
Law enforcement officers can now arrest suspects for shoplifting based on probable cause, even if they did not witness the crime in progress.
Stricter Penalties:
The laws increase jail time and felony sentencing for certain theft-related crimes, particularly those with high-value goods or multiple perpetrators.
New Crimes and Penalties
Possession of Stolen Goods:
A new crime is established for possessing stolen property valued over $950 with the intent to sell, exchange, or return it.
Property Damage During Theft:
New penalties are introduced for criminals who damage property during the course of a theft, such as "smash and grab" robberies.
Additional Measures
Proposition 36:
A ballot measure voters will consider that could convert petty theft into a felony for repeat offenders and lengthen felony sentences for group theft and vandalism.
Retailer Restraining Orders:
Retailers are now able to seek restraining orders against individuals convicted of organized retail theft, vandalism, or assault against store employees.

National Guard shouldn't be deployed.

Punish criminals and deport illegals would help.
