Media Diego Sanchez Arrested For Drive By Shooting

Diego Sanchez -- the winner of the first season of "The Ultimate Fighter" -- was arrested Thursday in New Mexico ... after he allegedly fired a gun while passing by a crash.

According to KRQE News, officers were working an incident on I-40 in Albuquerque when they say a passenger in a Jeep Gladiator -- later identified as Sanchez -- shot off a round as the vehicle drove by the scene.

Cops then followed the car and pulled it over a short time later. While officers say he admitted there was a gun in the car ... Sanchez denied ever firing a shot.

The driver of the vehicle -- who is not facing any charges -- told cops Diego did, in fact, shoot a gun out the car window and even laughed about it.

After searching the car, cops say they found three rounds on the passenger side and the weapon in the back pocket of the driver's seat.

The 43-year-old is currently behind bars and facing two charges -- one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle and negligent use of a deadly weapon

Holy hell

That mugshot is creepy. It seems he hasn't been healthy definitely put on a bunch of weight. But smiling for shooting a fucking gun at a crashed car. He could've hit anybody. What a dumb motherfucker

On one hand he's always been crazy. He's never committed illegal violence especially not firing a gun at a crashed vehicle . His whole arc with that con artist, paying him off, being scared of him. Diego seemed like a child. I just wasnt really scared if him until now but looking back he was always fucked up and vulnerable

On the other hand there's a stigma with MMA. And its glaring more over time. People are doing crazy illegal, dangerous, threatening shit post career or during career. There is clear CTE and overtime it could ruin the company because its obviously the endgame product. Maybe worse than pro wrestling or any other sport

It reminds me of a new drug or product where the waves of casualties ring in over the decades. Like the demonization of cigarettes from the 70s to 21st century

Legally UFC may be safe but overtime the public consumers may turn their shoulder out of fear. BJ Penn, Sanchez, Nick Diaz, Mayhem, Velasquez, McGregor. And then the raw damage on non offenders like Liddell, Goodridge, Pham, Ferguson (who's also done quasi legal stuff with his family), etc

It just sucks to see. I keep thinking that most our exit athletes our fucked dealing with damage, mental problems, age, less opportunities from performing in youth. Its just so much downhill. Fighters dont know where to go when they can no longer compete and we are seeing MONSTERS created either by corellation or causation

I guess no ufc fighter has ______ their family though :/

Back on topic Diego is in an awful place. Om glad I haven't heard of him for a while but maybe this has been why. I was hoping he'd get better from the Fabia saga. Not this horrendous random evil

Looking back at his career, its length, how far he fell off and kept competing. The BJ Penn fight. Diego is a GD danger to society after this. Holy shit. Not saying these events will end UFC but we will see more of them im afraid

There comes a point of time when you get hit in the head so much it becomes appropriate to fire a gun in public city limits. For fun, amusement, or shooting a family member of someone you could probably confront without a gun

I've been hit in the head once or twice. I've also fractured my skull at 24 in a bicycle accident and was in ICU for a night and the hospital for a few more nights.

I own a gun locked in my safe in my closet. I wouldn't want to use it on anybody. Even carrying it in public (legally) opens up a new big can of worms. Basically im never public with it. I would take it out a few times a year with clip detached and unchambered to shoot in nature

Guns are not a fucking joke. Some may deem they are okay for carrying permits. But they aren't a fucking toy for post athletes who have been punched 10,000 times

Sounds like CTE. What is it about New Mexico and a reckless discharge of a firearm. Happened twice now with jacksons fighters.

Diego may not be evil or a bad person but he was brainwashed by a guru, fake guru.

If he was able to be deceived so easily, it is a red flag. Some people are really vulnerable and will fall for anything.

A brainwashed guy could do anything, if you were to ask me, that do not come up as a surprise.
I can totally see Diego getting tricked out by some pimp in prison. Just imagine how embarrassing that shit would be as a UFC fan

CTE was my first thought. Hope he gets the help he needs and no one was hurt.
Don't know what cte has to do with doing pilau things.. Thank god know one was hurt. Jones did this same thing and no one said anything about cte

Yeah, as MMA gets older you'll see a lot of OGs with messed up lives, sad to watch tbh
The truth I don't think max Holloway has a good future he had CTE symptoms and is still fighting.

i don't think it's CTE. i think the majority of guys who do insane shit were already crazy. Diego was already crazy. BJ was already crazy. Jon Jones was already crazy. you don't see any of the Pride guys acting like maniacs and they're older and arguably have endured much more punishment than these UFC guys, same with the old K-1 guys. Mike Bernardo probably had CTE but he didn't do any crazy shit that endangered others, sadly he committed suicide.

i don't think it's necessarily MMA turning them into this. i think it's crazy violent people who were attracted to MMA in the first place and then got older and aged and incurred more damage but the insanity of them is on them, not on the brain damage. that just allowed the mask to slip more easily in my opinion.
I think they started crazy and CTE made them CRAZIER.

Im both surprised, and not surprised, at the same time.

The fabia jokes in this thread are on point tho
