News Diego Lopes wants to be backup for Topuria vs Holloway

Undeserved and too soon for be an official backup.

Who's ahead of him? I'd like him to win 1 more before a shot but like. Volk is the only other dude that comes to mind tbh and im not quite a fan of him getting an immediate shot at Topuria or a 4th Holloway fight on short notice without Max AS champ

I don't mind it as a backup. At least if he ended up biting off a little more than he could chew this early in his career, it wouldn't be held against him as much. I know it's a solid win in that division as far as rankings are concerned, but there is a skill gap a mile wide between Ortega and Ilia/Max/Volk.

If Max wins I think Volk is a lock for that title shot.

I don't think anyone wants to see Max vs. Volk 4 being honest - if Max wins I think they'd legit give Lopes the shot and make Volk/Topuria a rematch to get the title shot after.

I know there isn't a ton of interest in Volk vs. Topuria but the division is kind of dead behind the top couple guys with Emmett getting destroyed by Yair, Yair getting subbed by Ortega, and Ortega getting thrashed by Lopes.

At minimum Volk has huge name value still, even if his standing has been diminished by getting finished back-to-back

Doing a trilogy when it was 2-0 but the second fight was close is justifiable, but doing a fourth fight when it's now 3-0 and the third fight was a blow-out is sheer lunacy.

The only other time we've had 4 fights was Figgy/Moreno and they were 1-1-1 with the result changing each time (honestly the first one should've been a Figgy win even with the point deduction he clearly won 4 rounds).

It's lunacy unless the guy who lost all 3 is the champ. A top ranked challenger who beat the champ repeatedly has a very strong claim that he's better than the champ.

Ortega should've been out of the top 5 YEARS ago but he stuck around for whatever reason.

But it’s a sick fight, just enjoy it - Evloev will get his shot next in either a rematch with Lopes or a unique style matchup Volk has never faced.
