Google Nog interviews - there is an old one where he talks about this fight and the beginning specifically. He said something along the lines of that they had a game plan to keep it standing and fight him from distance and wear Sapp down but that he got scared/nervous just as the fight was about to start and ended up shooting because it was instinct and then does not remember much after getting spiked by that Goon Sapp.

The only luck in that fight is that he didn't break his neck when he got spiked. Nog is known for his ability to take punishment then sub the guy.

The only way that makes sense to me is if his neck was already broken when Sapp drove him into the mat like a fence post.

can't say for sure what type of game plan nog would commit to if it were on concrete. just as we'd imagine Jones wouldn't crawl towards his opponents with soccer kicks allowed.
