He started to fight better competition? I mean its pretty clear he's not the same fighter he once was, but i don't think he went downhill as soon as he fought cain. There is something to be said about level of competition, usually the fighters get the worst match up from the ufc after they become champions, cause the ufc wants to create new stars.
Jds wins before cain are very good don't get me wrong but they were basically a roy nelson ( power puncher and not much more ) an out of prime frank mir and gonzaga.
After cain he has only fought against the best and the best upcomers of the division and to be fair he won most of those fights, but he also lost some and thats in my opinion has more to do with his oponents than himself.
