Derrick Lewis doesn't get the recognition he deserves in here

There are too many fighters on the roster to praise every mid-level contender in every division ts, what you’re asking is unreasonable. I get that you’re arguing against his mediocrity, but most of the time when it counts Derek comes up short.
<WhatItIs>

Lewis isn't a mid-level contender, he's been a top 5 HW for several years now and has had a title shot.

He's also got the UFC record for KOs in the division.

That said. Being invested in who Sherdoggers like or don't like is pretty much pointless.

Prospects with big hype trains like Khamzat or Perry (after his first few UFC fights) get more respect than most reigning champs do.

Did u actually watch the Ivanov fight??? That was a good scrap. That was some of the biggest shots i've ever seen two guys take, especially Ivanov
I admit there was some action, more than I remembered, but most of the times they were just clinching and hugging.

That man is scary durable, I remmember Olienek hold that scarfhold choke on him for almost a minute untill he was making signs of confusion like “I swear this worked all month in the gym on every sparring partner, this man isn’t even fighting back and nothing is working”.

When Oleinik looked up and laughed like "what am I doing here" after being unable to sub Lewis is one of the funniest things that I've seen in the fight.

He's a big scary striker with ko power! Like i said Big Nog made his name off guys like him.

Honestly I think Nog would beat him more easily than he did Sapp who did have a decent sub grappling game and insane power to break out of bad positions.

Again though the difference is guys like Sapp and Rogers imploded after bad losses, Lewis has stayed in decent form and I think does deserve alot of credit for that.

He's deceptively well-rounded, and has natural strength and high-caliber fight experience. But he is not exceptional in any area, and he has shown his ceiling. His in-fight antics and post-fight interviews are seen as comical by some viewers. I respect him, but I see no reason to celebrate him.

He's also excellent at defending subs though, he has different dimensions to his game than a lot of other guys.

What Cormier did to him didnt seem like great defence to me.

Grappling at HW today is a pale shadow of what it was 10-15 years ago that makes being a brawler with more limited grappling much easier now.

Hey I totally agree with this, and I honestly don't mind BB, and he does deserve his credit. But I think he's rated right about where he should be to be honest

BB is a G. I respek him a lot and I hope he fights Jon. Something tells me that it could happen.

No, but Cormier has the ideal style to hold anyone down really.

Probably the most underrated fighter on Sherdog imo. People say he shows how much HW's have regressed, but I genuinely think if you teleported him somehow to the PRIDE HW division, you'd be shocked at how well he did.

He has great power which he carries through the whole fight, very tough to submit, very good at getting back up, strong as fuck and some of the nastiest ground and pound the history of the sport.

Based on what?

For all his supposed success, BB's biggest win is Volkov, in a fight where he got his ass kicked 90% of the time.
The rest of his wins are mediocre opponents at BEST, and he looks like shit in most those wins in any case.

I don't think either would do in a younger, decent HW division.

This is only fight where i don't want either fighter to loose.

And both guys have styles that are fun to watch. One with extraordinary boxing/kickboxing, other with extraordinary wrestling.

A dollar and fifty cents, a squirt of piss, and Sherdog Validation will get you a small cup of coffee at the
local convenient store. He's had a good UFC career, people love him, and a win over Curtis gets him in the "title talk" again. Phyuck Sherdog Validation

With his upcoming fight against Blaydes this weekend, I'm surprised no one is talking about him at all.

Sadly, Lewis doesn't get the recognition he deserves. As of now, he's the one and only most entertaining fighter in the division, the only top HW today who actually shows up and bang it without hesitancy and take absolute any fights without delay just for the fans. You don't see that with others anymore.

Yet, he's treated like he's some bum. Why is that? Do you realize he's only 1-2 fight away from getting the title shot again?

He is good. Just wait and see what happens.

Dude, have you watched his fights? He had asbolute snoozefests against Ngannou, Ivanov and Latifi . He got schooled by DC and starched by JDS. He's not even really entertaining in the cage.

All of his hype comes from Travis Brown and Volkov where he gave a fun unexpected finish and good punchlines in the post fight interview. That's not much.
you dont have to convince me, i was just quoting the thread starter

I mean to be fair Lewis has held his form together quite well, that kind of fighter does have a tendency to be a bit flash in the pan like Brett Rogers.

Lewis is way better than Brett Rogers man, c'mon

Sapp would not put a beating on Lewis before getting KOed.

Said that, of course I favour Nog to submit Lewis. Styles make fights

Sapp against Lewis? I was taking Nog against Lewis.

2002 Sapp vs Lewis I think Bob would have a good shot at finishing early, especially on the ground but if Lewis survived 5-10 mins it could maybe turn around.

Tough to make defintive judgement about Sapp though as his prime was so short.
