Deontay Wilder: 'No one in the US knows Anthony Joshua's name... he needs to fight me to be a global

The US is definitely the best place to get folks to pay to watch a boxing match on TV.
The PPV model is first and formost a North American phenomenon so it shouldn't be too surprizing that the majority of huge ppv fights happen in the US.

If you look at the sport in terms of more recent history, say the last decade or so, it seems to me that the US is NOT the hotbed of the sport that it once was. Moreover, if you don't include Mayweather even the ppv boxing returns for the last decade are rather crappy.

PPV returns are the biggest driver of revenue, though. The same goes for when Joshua fights in the UK. PPV are what make fighters the lucrative pay cheques.

Anyway, Wilder is wrong, but only to a point. Beating Wilder in spectacular fashion would really help Joshua's exposure in the US and could take him to the next level as a star.

The live gate $ is in the States as well.

No where in the world does Boxing even sniff the revenue that it does here.

It seems a bit silly to exclude the biggest star out of the discussion, but Pac, Canelo, etc fight here mostly also. Hell even your superstar Wlad has fought here many many times.

Wilders only talking to get his name in peoples mouths.

Just look at the front page of this forum for example.

This discussion is moving to irrelevant but anyone remember when fighters sold out in England and the guys said, USA or no money.

What a crock of dog shit. Wilder already crossed the pond for Povetkin but someone cant piss clean.

“Frozen themselves out of the global scene” yet all the biggest fights are still happening here? Got it.

Meh, as you know this happens on here from time to time. Behind all this boxing talk, we're all fans shit, a lot of foreigners resent the shit out of the US and it comes out in threads like these sometimes.

If you don't like me b/c of the part of Earth I was born on or you want to make the boxing section a war room thread about "American greed and arrogance" and try to reach and apply that bullshit to boxing, then you can lick my butt and suck on my balls.

that is all.

I also just realised there is no source just something in quotation marks. Let me join in “Lennox Lewis is unretiring to fight Oscar de la Hoya in a bra and panties match at wrestle mania” - Richard stroker

Any boxing fan who is saying Joshua is on the gear and at the same time says wilder is a pussy for pulling out of fights when opponents piss hot is a moron.

I’m English and have lived in both countries. Americans insistence on asking where the bathroom is when they want to know where a toilet is is strange, yes I have rooms and yes I have places where there is only a toilet. Are you asking me if its cool to have a bath while we are watching the game?

Also cleats, why are you naming footwear after something that literally explains what’s on the bottom of the footwear. If I ask you if you can remember where I’ve left my rubber soles I’m either revealing a deep love for the beatles or looking for a single condom.

Does that mean you have to hate people who aren’t the same? Nopeski. Have a fund day weirdos.

We're weirdly uptight when it comes to saying "toilet" for some reason. Like saying bathroom is gonna hide the fact that you're taking a piss or shit.

I guess it becomes a daily routine thing. If, with no prior knowledge, you ask me to use the restroom I would guess you’re looking for the room with my consoles and tv. If you ask for the bathroom, I’ll send you to where a bath is. If you say, I gotta shit real bad, I’ll tell you where to shit.

Everyone in California also used to greet each other (white boys) with a hand slap and a fist bump? Is that still a thing? Do that over here and people will ask you why you’re gay.

It depends on the person, in corporate/professional settings you always do the traditional handshake no matter what, obv. You don't want to slap hands with a ceo, but if you limp wrist it with the dead fish grip you're considered a pussy or a queer. Firm handshakes are key.

Casually almost all black dudes will do some type of hand slap with some fancy shit at the end and as a white guy if you can pull it off you get a bunch of cool points all around. A lot of the time at the end of the hand slap thing you don't shake with the index or thumb. It's weird but cool.

This is some high level shit, few caucasians have been seen pulling this level of handshake off, altho there have been rumors.

With other white guys I just put my hand out and go with the flow. Then there's the whole fistbump shit, I've messed that up with a black person before, twas embarrassing. We have a lot of different handshakes in different circumstances over here, at least in my experience.

Yes I just did a whole b/d on handshakes. I don't know how to feel about that.

Snoop taught me how to wrangle the fist bump handshake thing.

I went to juco for a semester and every day there was a guy with skinclike leather sunbathing outside the back of the athletics offices in tiger print speedos. Nobody knew who he was. I hope one day he thought, fuck it, if I make it look like it’s normal no one will ask me any questions.

I’ll do a seminar on Masonic handshakes at some point. I know what they all mean but if someone assumes you are a mason, I see you.

Well, I suggest excluding Mayweather, as he is clearly an outlier, and not representative of the normal run of the sport. He is an anomoly, and doesn't represent the overall health of the sport.

You can say that the live gates are bigger in the USA, and that may be true, but, is that because the data on live gate returns is mandated to be made public in the US, and it isn't in other jurisdictions?

For example, you can find the reported live gate for event in the USA pretty easily, but what was the live gate for Froch vs Groves? What was the live gate for Joshua vs Klitchko?

I have no fucking idea. I mean, the information is probabaly obtainable, but not by me. You've got to think that the 80,000 watching Froch, and/or the 90,000 watching Joshua didn't get in for free right? I mean, you have to go back to 1920-30's era in the USA to see attendance numbers like those happening in the UK lately.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck if these two meet on a barge in the middle of the fucking Atlantic, just get it done.

Im kind of taken back this is even a debate.

If the $ was not in the States why do the vast majority of big fights take place here?

I dont care where it happens either. AJ is the bigger draw so hell dictate where it goes down, rightfully.

Deontay is just talking, we all know that AJ is huge in the UK and that's where the money is. Deontay will go over there, he did for Povetkin, he'll definitely do it for AJ. This might just be a bargaining chip type of deal to say "if I go over there then you gotta give me more money."

This is why I don't get the disdain for Americans, I love most other countries, I respect the hell outta the Brits b/c they really get behind their own in this sport and you guys are tough blue collar cunts overall, like me. I have no issues with other countries....... except France, fuck France.... J/k Frenchmen, just a little, tho.

People are ignoring the big picture my friend. Yeah if you sell out Wembley and do ok on uk ppv you aren’t going to be upset with the return. Wembley is in buttfuck nowhere in north west London.

When Vegas buys a fight they know the high rollers are going to be in town and everyone wins.

People need to understand that holding fights in London means you aren’t in the center, you aren’t near any of the good clubs or casinos and have fun on the tube at 1am.

In Vegas incredibly rich man wakes up does what he needs to, hits the tables with his drinks comped, watches the fight, 20 mins later he’s paying you money again.

Only the hardcore knew about Charlie Z and Wilder still fought him. Just Sayin'.

Want to compile a list of the highest grossing fights and show me how many were outside of the States? Ill wait.

No one is triggered, its just a hilariously stupid comment. Las Vegas and New York rule Boxing. It isnt even remotely close.

Sorry your living off yesterday.

Today Russia, Britain, Europe are combining and making their own moves.

Soon you won't even get fighters like GGG or Kovalev coming over to save your dwindling talent pool.

Honestly, as the other poster mentioned US is getting by on circus shows, Canelo vs GGG II ...... really?

You mean the same fight that GGG out pointed Canelo only to have a judge rip him off for a draw, and before you argue that ......... she got fkin suspended!!

Suspended!!! when does a judge get benched for incompetence in a fight that's not rigged??

Your HW champ is stranded while all the belts are in the UK and Russia.

The Gassiev vs Dorticos fight was a better fight than anything I've seen come out of America for years.

Lomochenko vs an old Pac man is your next mega fight ZZZzzzzzzzzz

Gtfo out of here.

America is dwindling in boxing because your promoters are too greedy to go out and set up good fights for fear of their man losing and or going outside of the US.

Joshua vs Klitszcho was a sold out Wembley Stadium 90k people ......... Wilder is lucky if he sells out a 30k shack.

You guys have big stadiums .......... try using them if you can.

So, you have absolutey zero to back your argument?

Got it.

All the CW belts are in Russia / Ukraine, unified as of now.

All the HW belts are in the UK as of the Parker fight bar your one sheltered HW champ.

Wembley was 90k sold out to the brim, fact ........ what spectacle has any of your fighters done recently to match that?

6 years ago America almost sunk boxing to the point where the UFC was claiming dominance (apart from the odd mega fight which usually starred Mayweather).

US boxers refusal to fight each other put boxing back years.

That is my gripe with your promoters.

As per the thread, if you guys rock so much why is Deontay outside starring in? you should of seen his face when he was commenting on the Joshua vs Klistz fight and he saw Wembley, he looked like a kid in sweet factory, jaw on the floor, why has he not got shows like that in the US?
I respect Deontay, either he or Joshua is no1 but the fact remains Deontay's management couldn't get him belts, Joshuas did.

Not sure how you can save face while disputing that.

Admit it and we can move on, we all want the same thing, but your promoters need to check themselves.
