I find it super strange that y'all are so attached to your weapons that that becomes your line in the sand. Not education, not healthcare, not children's well being, but guns. It's a very strange value system.

Not an enabler. Few are more vocal about their distaste for trump than I am. But yes, guns are my line into the sand. It is the second amendment, which protects the first amendment. The healthcare and everything else is ninth amendment if that. That is the ninth amendment which protects all rights not already enumerated, such as the freedom of travel and the right to pursue happiness. The framers listed them in order for a reason. The second is a very important amendment imo and the fact that the dems were coming after it was an issue for me. It’s not my fault that trump won. You fuckers lost it and that is not my fault for not voting for a shit candidate.

Okay, honestly good to hear. I didn't read the whole thread but did see you say you were your kids first bully or something like be your kids first bully.

I also happy your life has reached more of a point of equilibrium and I hope you three continue to live your best lives. I like the idea of sailing around and I have read dozens of nautical novels. I did a lot of sailing in the San Francisco Bay, mostly recreation and beer can races. Thought of buying a boat many times but slips here are super rare.

I'm way too lazy and soft for that shit TBH. I couldn't give up the comforts of home and I already live over looking the water here in Kona.

It isn't so much that the Democrats are all that much more unpopular than the Republicans. The Dems have been in the 20s, but the Reps have been in the 30s (percentagewise in approval); both parties are unpopular.

The Dems just aren't going to get enough of the middle to win national elections, because the middle (the relatively small group of centrists and independents that decide the elections) would rather go with the Reps than the identity-obsessed, socialist Dems. The Dems will not change during this generation; they are deeply entrenched in the losing side of the culture wars. Trump has never really been popular, he is just MORE popular than the identity/socialist people for better or for worse.

As long as male-born trans in sports, open borders, massive handouts, and defunding the police are the kind of policies that Dems support, they will continue to lose unless Trump sends us into a great depression. Those kinds of policies may be popular in places like NY, but they hurt the larger Dem cause.

I think it's true in the sense that Democrats lose almost entirely because of their association with icky groups like gays and trannies. It's pretty clear by now that a BIG percentage of voters aren't informed and policy-focused but rather driven by feels and vibes. And the feels and vibes of the Democrats has been brilliantly dragged through the mud by the GOP.

That's what I think the problem is. What the solution should be is another issue.

I more or less agree with you that you fix this not by turning on the LGBT but by shifting attention to healthcare, minimum wage, college tuition, and other economic issues.

The thing is even then it's an uphill battle. Note that one of the top complaints about Biden was inflation, but when you ask what country performed better that we should have emulated, it's crickets.
