Definitive 205 All-Time Ranking

Jesus some of you guys need to educate yourself on Wanderlei, did he fight drastically out of his prime? Yeah..

He was terrifying, TERRIFYING in Pride.

Rampage was at his peak (and Jackson was absolutely amazing as well) when they fought and Rampage made chuck look terrible.

Shogun is up in that regard as well.

Griffin finished #2 in his prime and beat #4 to be champ. Also beat #7 twice. Won first TUF. How is he not over Jiri, Noguiera, Sakuraba and Shamrock? Cmon get real..

He beat injured Shogun and got KTFO by the past-prime Shogun in the rematch.

Shogun was hampered by injuries for his entire UFC career.
He became PRIDE champ due to his talent, athleticism and aggression...he became UFC champ due to discipline, strategy and game planning, he was already past his physical best.

Forrest lost to Tito, then Dana helped him avenge those losses when Tito was far far over the hill.

His fight against Rampage was 50/50, it's his best win and it's why he's even in the conversation in this thread. It's not good enough to make the top 15 all time sorry.

To answer your 'how is he not above...?'

1. Jiri has finished a number of good and highly ranked fighters, he submitted Glover which is better than any win of Forrest's career.

2. Nogueira's career is overlooked because of his brother, but he defeated Overeem twice, submitted Dan Henderson, and if we look at common UFC opponents he beat Rashad Evans and finished Tito Ortiz in the first round.

3. Sakuraba is one of the top 5 legends of MMA. It's difficult to pin him down to 1 division which is why he's so low on this list. He has wins at 205 over Rampage, Vitor Belfort and Randleman (or was that heavyweight?).

4. Shamrock was UFC champ and defended the belt 4 times. He retired from MMA with an undefeated UFC record because there was nobody left to beat.

Shamrock and Sakuraba get pioneer points too.

This is the definitive ranking of 205 division.
DC shouldnt be top 10, he only had 9 fights and was never the best fighter in his division
He won the title and defended three times. Jones probably never beat him clean. Half the guys in your top 10 were only champs in one Org, with numerous guys in Pride, for example , almost certainly better.
You need to do better.

I believe the 205 GOAT ranking is the most difficult to rank. The reason being is because most 205 fighters have fought in 185 and/or 265 sometime in their careers.

1. Jones
2. Rua
3. Jackson
4. Liddell
5. Wanderlei
6. Ortiz
7. Teixeira
8. Machida
9. Evans
10. Griffin
11. Cormier
12. Blachowicz
13. Henderson
14. Couture
15. Belfort

Yo bro, you've got some straight up bias in this ranking and no fire for the new school. It's all good, but let's real talk for a second. You're leaving out some cold-blooded assassins like Shogun, Gus, and Bader. And don't even get me started on Lil Nog, King Mo, and Chuck.

Here's my take, no holds barred:

Jones - The clear cut king of 205, no debate.
Shogun - Knee-capped some of the GOATs, including Liddell and Ortiz.
Bader - The Duke is an absolute animal with a killer right hand.
Gustafsson - The Mauler had Jones' number in their first fight, almost took the belt.
Cormier - D.C. is a two-weight champ, fought some of the best of all time, and still got it.
Lil Nog - He's been banging out the competition for over a decade, a true veteran.
King Mo - The wrestler turned striker has sick hands and a mean streak.
Rua - Shogun's won the belt, been in some all-time wars, and still got the skills.
Jackson - Rampage has a history of KOing folks, that right hand is straight fire.
Chuck - The Iceman don't care who you are, he'll put you to sleep with one shot.
I mean, this is just my opinion but these cats deserve the respect they've earned in the cage.

Lol. Should be like this:

1. Jones
2. DC
3. Chuck
4. Wanderlei
5. Rampage
6. Shogun
7. Glover
8. Jan
9. Machida
10. Tito

Younger TRT Hendo could beat anyone one that list other than Jones and DC nor probably the elusive Machida either. Rampage a toss up as was demonstrated once already.

DC barely had any fights at 205. How is he #2?

Shogun never had a run of dominance at 205. How is he above Chuck & Wanderlei?

Cummins, Henderson, Gus, Jones twice, Rumble twice, Anderson, and Volkan. That’s 9 fights of which he lost only two to the unanimous GOAT.

It's hard to do a top 10 cus half of them fought in PRIDE during their primes, but here's what I would have:
1) Jones- basically a fact at this point
2) DC - I hate DC but Jones was the only man that could beat him at 205 and did it twice, DC crushes everyone else on this list without question and he defended the belt a couple times and he was a monster at HW, dual champ at one point
3) Shogun - his 05 run was legendary and his resume was impressive and also held a UFC belt
4) Chuck
5) Wandy
6) Rampage
7) Randy
8) Tito
9) Forrest
10) Machida

Would be interesting if 3-10 had a fantasy round robin tournament, very hard to rank after Jones and DC imo

Before making a list like this it needs to be stated if it’s based on career accomplishments or greater peak performance, or it becomes to convoluted

loL @ cormier being so low

u smokin crack

Tier 1: Jones
Tier 2: Shogun
Tier 3: Rampage/Chuck/Wand
Tier 4: Whoever Else

On what basis do you have Shogun #2 let alone on a tier by himself? What has he done to earn that postion?

I keep asking this question and no one can answer it. Maybe you will.

The list should look something like this:

1. Jones
2a. Wanderlei
2b. Chuck
4a. Rampage
4b. Shogun
6. Tito
7. Lyoto
8. Evans
9. Henderson
10. DC
chuck is better than wanderlei

he beat more true 205 pound guys than wanderlei did

wanderlei might have been pride mw champ, but much of his fame came from beating sakuraba 3 times (sakuraba is 185 fighter, maybe should be really 170 pound)

shogun beat arona, nog, overeem then he beat machida

that's more impressive than wins that wanderlei has

Well I think Wanderlei's wins over Rampage 2x, Henderson, Arona, Mezger, and Sakuraba 3x are at least comparable. I don't think Shogun's are definitely better. How do you factor in Wanderlei's 5-year, 18-0-2 run of dominance at 205 that included the GP championship, the Pride 205 championship, and 4 title defenses? Isn't that a more accomplished resume and a better run of dominance than anything Shogun as had?
