Got to respect that, yeah I doubt you would be able to fool all of those educated entities...I heard of your product, but did not know much about it, if possible I would like to try a sample of it too to see whether or not it is for me....

My gut feeling is that you will see more and more studies published on alternative and natural antibacterials. With Triclosan coming under fire you will see larger companies drift away from it. One of my competitors who has touted its benefits and slammed TTO has even pulled it from their product. When I did the research for Defense Soap I naturally looked at it as an ingredient. When I saw the side effects I dumped it immediately. If an uneducated wrestling coach policeman knew this 10 years ago from doing google searches shouldn't the FDA and large manufacturers have know it too.

When it is banned all together these companies will produce the alternatives and most likely some research.

when i first started training,i was told to use head and shoulders-i got staph

then my bjj coach said no,not head and shoulders,use selsun blue-i got staph again

(fyi,i was the person who cleaned the gym,and i was religious about showering right away after class)

moved to a new place,got ringworm

went away,went back to training,got ringworm again

in both the staph and the ringworm cases,it was discovered i was training with someone who had it and didnt tell anybody-and i also get those little pimples all over my leg

since the 2nd time i got ringworm,i ordered defense soap and havent had staph,ringworm,or the little pimples

like he said,it might not work for everyone,but it definitely works for me

I can already do this with my current customer database. I have 10s of thousands of customers who use it daily and are in gyms where people get infected and who are using other soaps. I have letters and emails from them stating exactly that.....the problem is that this type of study becomes more of a testimonial. I love testimonials however they receive no credit in the scientific world. This actually baffles me. If 250 million people walked into the office of the FDA and said "product x works for me" and all 250 million people had nothing but positive results the response from the FDA would be "where is the study backing up what you say"

To do an actual study that holds weight with the FDA would go like this. Take at least 300 participants. Break them up into three groups. Defense Soap, another name brand soap, and no soap or a placebo bar with no soap properties. Each member of each group would need to be infected with the same amount of contaminant in the same exact spot on the body. They would need to be kept in a controlled environment. The would all have to shower at the same time, with the same temperature of water leaving the soap on the skin for exactly the same amount of time. They would have to have the same exact diet and sleep schedule. Their hydration levels would have to held to a constant and consistent level. The variables go on and on. It simply cannot be done.

Glad to hear the business is doing well. Your marketing guys do a great job getting the product out there. I see Defense Soap commercials quite a bit on grappling-related youtube videos such as those by Jits Magazine, and the Budovideos "Rolled Up" series.

Also, as a fellow northeast Ohioan, nice avatar. I'm guessing that's Colin? The Palmer brothers are legendary in the local wrestling scene. His older brother Lance willl be in the UFC shortly I think.

The problem is you already have selection bias in your testimonials. people who are using it know they are using it and are more likely to believe it is working for them even though they might never have got any infections without using it.

You don't need to deliberately infect people with a contaminant if the study is large enough. Look at the recent HIV study in Thailand. They just used an at risk group, as well as that they had to tell their study group to avoid risky behaviour (which probably none of them listened to anyway) to make their study ethical.

You would need to have a sample size large enough and show a statistically significant result over other soap for it to prove successful. Obviously this study would be costly, but I would think the benefits would outweigh the outlays. Unless of course the study shows that your soap is either ineffectual or it could even show that you are more at risk.

There is no way to do the testing. You would have to purposely infect a group with staph. This is unethical and cannot and should not ever be done. Could you imagine being in the group that received the placebo soap. That would be horrible to say the least.

Fun thread.

One can devise a randomized, double-blind study on a large sample of active grapplers. Divide the grapplers into two groups: one group gets defense soap, the other gets ordinary soap. Bring the grapplers in for a skin exam maybe every two weeks. Compile the rates of infection for the most common skin diseases, and compare across the two groups.

Obviously this would be expensive and therefore probably impractical.

That is actually my son Gus Sako. He currently wrestles for the University of Virginia. He was a 2x Ohio State Champion and a 3x Finalist. Both Lance and Collin wrestled for my youth team the Westshore Wrestling Club which feeds St Eds.

Lance is over at Team Alpha Male. I have sponsored everyone of his fights. I think too that he will break into the UFC very soon.
