Goon thinks that I set my max too low for 5/3/1 if I can do 20 reps.
He's right. That's ridiculous. You might as well skip the previous "work" sets (I use that word in quotation marks because they couldn't possibly be much work) and run a 20-rep squat program, lol.

Nice 20 repper! One option you have instead of testing your max and (possibly) making a big jump is to add more each wave, so maybe 10 or 15 lb instead of 5. That way the increase is more gradual.
