Goon thinks that I set my max too low for 5/3/1 if I can do 20 reps. I might test my 1RM and reset 5/3/1. I kind of like smashing all these PRs though...

He's right. That's ridiculous. You might as well skip the previous "work" sets (I use that word in quotation marks because they couldn't possibly be much work) and run a 20-rep squat program, lol.

Well, I had originally started with such a low max because of my knee and hip injuries but now that those issues are for the most part resolved, I think I'm ready to add some weight.

When's spring break coming up for you? I want some live squat coaching! :D

Wait.... the required reps are 5 or 3, right ? and you hit 20, I'd say goon is right.
 
Nice 20 repper! One option you have instead of testing your max and (possibly) making a big jump is to add more each wave, so maybe 10 or 15 lb instead of 5. That way the increase is more gradual.
