Deadlifts and milkshakes

Starting DL position looks fine to me. Looks like you have long femurs compared to your torso, so one would expect you to setup with hips relatively high.

The hips do rise ever-so-slightly as soon as you begin to pull, but it's a pretty minor thing.

Havnt followed your log to long. Can you fill me in on what ART is?

ART stands for Active Release Technique. I have to admit I don't know how to define it. All I know is that it's helping me. It can be described as 'pin and stretch.' The doctor puts pressure on a muscle or tendon while I stretch. I just started seeing this ART guy about two weeks ago for pain in hip.

Yeah I noticed that as well. I hate my stupid long femurs. I blame them for my shitty squat.

Thanks for the info.

And I'm in the same boat as you with the shitty squat.

When you start to pull, try and sit back more and pull the bar into you. I have to do this. Sort of sucks but easier on the lower back.

Why does it suck? For the shins? I definitely don't pull it into me because I never have any kind of marks on my shins like I see many other deadlifters have.

I sort of feel off-balance doing it, and only the weight of the bar keeps me in position.

Ahh gotcha. I'll test it out and see how I like it. Thanks!

Got a yucky cold. My throat and nose are killing me. Skipping benching today.

Did some foam rolling and BW squats 10 x 3 with absolutely no pain. Hooray!

It's a beautiful day out so I'll be adventuring with my beast all day in the woods. Re-starting 5/3/1 tomorrow.

Tell Goon we said hi.

LOL not that beast!

This one...

Here's my girl, Willow.

That comment about Goon was a compliment. He's a beast in the gym is what I meant.

hahahaha I think the first time I logged on Sherdog two years ago, I learned what 'furverts' were thanks to Midmo. You never know what you're going to get when you check that log out.

I'm aware I'm a little late chiming in on the video but what supplemental/assistance DL work are you doing? I don't see much in the log?

Also, the gym looks very familiar. Isn't there another poster here training out of there?

Right now the only assistance exercise I'm doing is body weight hyper extensions. I occasionally do good mornings but not as often as I should. I have an irritated hip that makes me hesitant to do a lot of assistance stuff.

And yes, eastNYgoon and I train in the same gym and usually we are the ones filming each other.

Ah thought so. Well have you tried semi narrow stance RDL's?? They've done wonders for my female lifter. She now does 100kg x5 with plenty left in the tank. They've helped her clean quite a bit and she can DL 140+kg easily w/o training the dl.

Sounds convincing enough! I know that I definitely have to spend more time doing assistance work, I'll give these a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

ART Session #4

The doctor seemed a bit tired and stressed. I think I was his last appointment and it was cut short a little. He gave me an intense back massage and at one point he was using a lever to move around the lower part of the table. He cracked my back in the most unusual but wonderful way. Unfortunately, I was really tense and my stomach hurt, still recovering from this little bug I got. He showed me some exercises I should be doing at home and also reprimanded me for not doing the ones he prescribed me to do weeks ago. Woops.

Also, just wanted to add that I registered for a meet at Albany Strength Dec. 3rd for the 123 weight class (I weighed 126 this morning). I stopped worrying about what my lifts were going to look like. I just want to get there, lift safely and have fun. I think I will be unhappy if I don't.

I looked at the results of the meet I was originally supposed to lift at yesterday. I would have done well in the bench but would have been dominated in the deadlift. All of the girls were pulling way over 250. I am shocked at how many girls can pull so much but can't bench 100 lbs.

Hip Rehab

Took off from work today, my cold is reaching its peak and I didn't sleep at all last night. Also, won't be deadlifting today. :icon_sad:

Following the doctors 'lumbosacral stretching routine'

Warm up:
Planks
Glute bridges
BW squats

Followed by 15 stretches; half are done while using a chair and the rest are while I'm on my back. They felt good and it's nice to have some direction as to what will alleviate my pain. I noticed a lot of tension/soreness when stretching the iliopsoas and quads.
