Well I'm a big fan of deficit pulls for floor speed but other, more PL-minded guys, might have a better idea.
This is usually my go-to exercise.
I want to try this but I have terrible sciatica pain, especially when I deadlift sometimes. My feeling was always that these would bother it? Maybe not, I'll give it a go.
Seriously though, it's all well and good to talk about eating cleanly and gaining lean mass but for a lot of people it's not that easy so adding in some "dirty" calories helps. Unless you feel like your body fat % is getting out of control don't worry about it.
For me simply attempting to pull everything off the ground with speed helped with my speed off the ground. I concentrate on driving my feet through the ground before thinking about pushing my hips through. I find the deadlift singles are good for this because the first few weeks the weight is fairly light so you can get good bar speed plus you do singles so you are never fatigued from a higher rep set.
A while ago Keosawa suggested doing extra warm-up sets concentrating on pulling with speed and that helps too. For example I do 135x5 once, rest for maybe 30 seconds and then pull 135x5 again but making sure that the bar flies off the ground for the second set. I do that for 135x5 and then 185x3 so by the time I get up to over 50% of my max I'm pulling with good speed.
I'm definitely not worried about body fat. I can still see my ribs haha
Thanks for the advice on the speed pulls. I'll keep all of this in mind!
