Deadlifts and milkshakes

Well I'm a big fan of deficit pulls for floor speed but other, more PL-minded guys, might have a better idea.

This is usually my go-to exercise.

I want to try this but I have terrible sciatica pain, especially when I deadlift sometimes. My feeling was always that these would bother it? Maybe not, I'll give it a go.

Seriously though, it's all well and good to talk about eating cleanly and gaining lean mass but for a lot of people it's not that easy so adding in some "dirty" calories helps. Unless you feel like your body fat % is getting out of control don't worry about it.

For me simply attempting to pull everything off the ground with speed helped with my speed off the ground. I concentrate on driving my feet through the ground before thinking about pushing my hips through. I find the deadlift singles are good for this because the first few weeks the weight is fairly light so you can get good bar speed plus you do singles so you are never fatigued from a higher rep set.

A while ago Keosawa suggested doing extra warm-up sets concentrating on pulling with speed and that helps too. For example I do 135x5 once, rest for maybe 30 seconds and then pull 135x5 again but making sure that the bar flies off the ground for the second set. I do that for 135x5 and then 185x3 so by the time I get up to over 50% of my max I'm pulling with good speed.

I'm definitely not worried about body fat. I can still see my ribs haha

Thanks for the advice on the speed pulls. I'll keep all of this in mind!

Hey, have you looked into the Agile 8 mobility stuff? From limited research I've heard that people have sciatica-like pain but its their piriformis getting wicked tight. I'm not sure of your history with it but its something to look into.

Sitting on a lax ball kills though.

I like dan's advice for speed warm up pulls too, I'll start incorporating them.

Yep, I've done them but not consistently. I think that's the main reason my injuries never seem to cease. I'm negligent in the rehab area lately.

BOOM, Great stretch in your face!!!

BOOM! I already know about it. Try again.

Doooooo it.

Noms:

Chocolate milk
Bag of pretzels
three eggs, sausage, cheddar cheese

Oh my god, this is all I've eaten today. I didn't even realize it until I typed it. I had a long day at work doing maintenance in our building and just completely forgot to eat lunch. I'll probably just do it anaconda style tonight and make up for the calories in one meal.

Sometimes you just have to do that. +1 on the chocolate milk consumption.

But I don't know what to eat! I've just been sitting here in front of the computer contemplating the most disgusting thing I could consume.

I know I want to finish it with a brownie sundae BUT what before that??

Chinese food? Pizza? Mac and cheese? Meatballs? Can't decide!

I'm doing it with pizza and cake tonight.

By tablespoons you mean gigantic gobs of PB right ?

Whip up some heavy cream, add whatever protein powder you like. You can basically add whatever you like. I had that a lot while on keto, think I added peanut butter as well.

This log is the opposite of the Jaktuary log that Jaunty started. That shake sounds heavenly.

Only way to find out if you really are a power lifter.

Well, yeah. You can also do things like crumble up reese's peanut butter cups and make a blizzard out of it.

Oh shit, the pressure is on! I just finished my chinese and chugged a coke. I might have to wait half an hour or so for the shake!

I warned Jaunty that winter is the season for bulking. He's doing it all wrong.
