More broadly, I don't think it makes sense to turn two obvious contenders into one when they are both proven. Its just overall bad planning for the division. There is no mandate Sean Strickland fights for the title again after a single fight against a guy on a losing streak, and it was a stinker.

I'd agree with you if there was a shortage of fresh contenders, but there isn't. You have Khamzat waiting, you have Caio waiting, you'll have the winner of imavov/izzy. I'd also agree with you even more if khamzat had more than one relevant win in the weight class, but he doesn't. He's got one amazing win at MW, then a win against welterweights, and he fights once a year -- that shouldn't be something to just sit around on.

Fighters towards the top of the division sitting and waiting almost always slows down the entire division. Fortunately Caio, who was previously saying strickland and khamzat were his friends and he didn't want to fight them, has since changed his tune and said he'll fight Khamzat.

I highly doubt it happens though because people want to capitalize on the khamzat hype. Although, I thought they'd capitalize on it now instead of throwing strickland in there. They SHOULD have capitalized and gave the shot to to khamzat, but since they're not capitalizing on khamzat's momentum they may as well keep the division active and book him vs. Caio.

Feel bad for what? Virna is gonna end up fighting the winner. She's actually fortunate she didn't have to fight Suarez for a title eliminator. Also the only one to actually pull out their fight was Virna. Suarez was never injured, just bad mma reporting.

Suarez never pulled out against Virna. That was some amateur reporting. Tatiana immediately denied she was injured and till this day you can't find any info on this mystery injury. The UFC clearly shelved the fight for Tatiana to fight Weili. Everyone conveniently fails to acknowledge that Virna pulled out with a knee injury last June against Tatiana. If anything Virna is probably going to get her title shot against the winner. This is the best case scenario for her because had Virna not pulled out she would be 2 to 3 fights away from a title shot after a Suarez mauling. Every day/month and year that passes only benefits the rest of the girls, as injuries has been the only thing to slow Tatiana down. The only person getting fucked is Weili.

Edit: not to go on a rant but its really disappointing how the media outlets that reported this mystery injury have been completely silent after Tatiana called them out the fake injury report. I hope it's gets addressed at some point.
