DDP is similar to Cruz

I get the awkwardness but very, very different. Machida was probably the closest thing to Cruz at MW and LHW with his footwork, movement and unusual technical striking. But Cruz wasn't karate-based. He just combined striking/grappling well along with some very fast, unpredictable footwork.

DDP is more like a combination of Keith Jardine (herky jerky movement), Yoel (lunging power shots followed by lulls in activity) and Jiri.

The dean of mean was a much more accurate comparison. The way they figured out cruz was to let him keep injuring himself until he slows down.

They STILL struggle with karate fighters like MVP.

I think threatening takedowns on DDP would make him much less threatening since he would be at risk of getting taken down whenever he moves forward. It's hard to run forward throwing big winging punches if someone is great at timing takedowns or can scramble and take your back. Dricus was the one with the takedown threat in all of his recent fights and he could get away with over extending on his strikes. Against someone like khamzat or caio that style would be less effective imo

1) Kumite master Frank Dux did similar things and claimed a 339-0 record. That actually sounds more believable than a perfect round number like 400 wins.
2) Rickson lost to Ron Tripp in Sambo, so he's 400-1 at best.
